Baldwin R017003IDM – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Baldwin Estate R017 rosette come with the knob or lever, or do I order those separately?
The R017 ships as roses only. You get either one or two roses depending on whether you order a half pair or a pair, plus the backplate and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs, levers, the latch and any adaptors are separate line items. So budget for at least two orders if you are building a set from scratch: the rose here, and the knob or lever you want on it.
2) Do I order the R017 rosette as a pair or a half pair for a dummy door?
That depends on which side of the door needs hardware. A full dummy set gets hardware on both faces, so order the pair. A half dummy, the usual choice on a closet or pantry door with a pull on one side only, takes the half pair. The Estate R017 is offered both ways, and the dummy roses are specifically sold as a pair or individually to build tubular full or half dummy sets.
3) Will the Baldwin Estate R017 rose work with any Baldwin knob or lever?
Baldwin states the R017 pairs with any knob or lever. That is the point of the Estate rose program: you choose the trim shape and the rose shape independently, so a square rose can sit under a round knob or a lever, whichever you prefer. Order the knob or lever separately in the same finish.
4) What finish do I order to match Baldwin hardware already on my other doors?
The R017 is stocked in fifteen Baldwin finish codes: 003 Polished Brass PVD, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 050 Satin Brass Black, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 056 Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass Brown, 076 Lifetime PVD Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 151 Antique Nickel, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Match on the number, not the name. Baldwin finish codes are consistent across their lines, so the 055 on your existing lever is the same 055 here. Note that 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is a living finish and will darken over time, while the PVD codes hold their color.
5) Is the Baldwin R017 rosette solid brass or plated pot metal?
Brass is the substrate. That matters on a rose because the retainer bears on it every time the knob is turned, and because most of the fifteen finishes offered are brass-family colors that live over solid material rather than a plated zinc shell.
6) Is the Baldwin Estate R017 rosette rated for a commercial building or an apartment turnover?
Residential. Baldwin classes the Estate R017 as residential hardware, so it belongs on single-family, condo interior and high-end multi-family unit doors rather than on a corridor or a stairwell opening in a commercial building. For a commercial opening you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 cylindrical lockset with its own rose, not a decorative rose and separate trim.
7) How many R017 rosettes do I need for a full dummy set on a pair of French doors?
Two pairs. Each door leaf in a full dummy configuration takes hardware on both faces, so that is one pair per leaf, plus a knob or lever for each face ordered separately. If the doors are only handled from the room side, half pairs will do and you cut the rose count in half.
