Baldwin R008 Estate Rosette Passage

Yes. The R008 rose measures 2-5/8 inches in diameter and is made to cover a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore on a pre-bored door, so a small amount of trim overlap hides the edge of the bore. Projection off the door face is 1/4 inch.

It is built for doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick, which covers both the common older interior door and the standard 1-3/4 inch slab. Thicker slabs fall outside the retainer's range.

Order the Pair when you are trimming both faces of the door, which is the normal case for a passage door with a knob or lever inside and out. The Half Pair gives you one rose and one backplate, which is what you want for a single-sided application or to replace one damaged rose and keep the mate that is already on the door.

No, and this matters when you are matching a set of doors. The passage rosette is the non-locking function, so it has no provision for a turn or an emergency release. Baldwin builds the R008 rose in Passage, Privacy, and Dummy versions in both Pair and Half Pair, and the function has to be specified on the order. Note that 2-5/8 inch or larger privacy roses do not include the 5097 Active backplate.

Fourteen finishes, each in Baldwin's Estate numbering so you can match trim already on the building: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112/11P Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Match the number on your existing Estate knobs or levers, not the name, since several brass tones read similarly.

The substrate is brass, and Baldwin classes the Estate R008 as residential hardware. For apartments, single family, and light hospitality interior doors that is the right fit. For a high traffic commercial opening you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 commercial lockset with its own trim rather than residential Estate rose trim.

That is the common use. Because the R008 is trim only, with its own backplate and retainers, you can swap the visible rose on a 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch pre-bored door and keep the existing latch and knob, provided the knob is Baldwin Estate and the bore is the standard 2-1/8 inch the 2-5/8 inch rose is sized to cover. Order the Half Pair if only one side needs replacing, and match the finish number.

Projection is 1/4 inch, so it sits nearly flush. That keeps it clear of casing on a tight reveal and it is worth knowing if you are matching it against an older, taller rose that left a shadow or paint line on the door face.
