Baldwin R026003IPS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin Estate R026 passage rosette come with the knob and latch, or do I have to order those separately?
The R026 passage rose ships with either one or two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and any adaptors are separate line items. So a working passage set is at least three orders: the rose, the knob or lever, and the tubular latch.
2) Should I order the R026 rose as a Pair or a Half Pair?
Order a Pair when you are trimming both faces of the door, which is the normal passage situation. Half Pair is a single rose, for a half dummy, for one face only, or to replace a damaged rose on a door where the other side is fine. Both choices are offered in every finish the R026 comes in.
3) Can I use the Baldwin R026 passage rose to build an entry set, or is it passage only?
Beyond tubular passage, the passage version of the R026 rose is used to build mortise sectional entry sets. If you want privacy (push button lock for a bath or bedroom), that is the privacy version of the rose, not this one, and dummy sets use the dummy version. Same rose profile across all of them, different function part.
4) Is the Baldwin Estate R026 rosette meant for commercial openings or houses?
Residential. The R026 is an Estate Series trim part, so it suits homes, condo interiors, and residential-grade multi-family doors. For a corridor, a stairwell, or anything on a fire-rated or high-traffic commercial opening, you want a commercial lockset line instead of Estate rose-and-knob trim.
5) What finishes does the Baldwin R026 rose come in, and can I match the other doors in the house?
Fifteen finishes: 003 Polished Brass PVD, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 050 Satin Brass Black, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 056 Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass Brown, 076 Lifetime PVD Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 151 Antique Nickel, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you are matching existing Baldwin trim, order by that two or three digit finish number rather than by the finish name, since several of the brass tones read similarly in photos. Every finish is available as a Pair or a Half Pair.
6) Will the 031 Non-Lacquered Brass R026 rose stay bright, or does it change color?
Non-lacquered brass (031) has no clear coat, so it darkens and patinas with handling and time. That is the point of it, but it is the wrong pick if you want a stable, uniform look across a run of doors. For brass that holds its appearance, the PVD finishes are the ones to specify: 003 Polished Brass PVD or 044 Satin Brass PVD.
7) Can I put the R026 rose on the doors I already have without changing the latch?
The R026 is trim, not a lock, so it mounts over a standard tubular prep with the rose retainer. Because the latch and adaptors come separately, whether your existing latch carries over depends on the knob or lever you pair it with, not on the rose. The safe approach on a retrofit is to order the rose, knob or lever, and latch together as a set so the parts are matched.
8) What does the Baldwin R026 rose actually look like on the door?
It is a round escutcheon plate with soft, rounded curves and no ornamentation, so it reads contemporary rather than traditional. If the rest of the house is Colonial or Victorian trim, a beaded or fluted Estate rose profile is the better visual match.
