Baldwin BAL-R046.044.PS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Baldwin R046 Palm Spring rose cover the standard 2-1/8 inch bore hole in my door?
No. The R046 Palm Spring rose will not cover a 2.125 inch standard door preparation, so if your door is already bored 2-1/8 inches you will see bare hole around the rose. It suits doors prepped for a smaller cross bore, or a new door you can prep to match.
2) Does the Baldwin R046 rose come with knobs or a latch?
No knob, lever, latch or adaptor is included. What ships is the rose or roses, the matching backplate and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Order the knob or lever, the latch and any adaptor separately.
3) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the Baldwin R046 rose?
Pair gives you two roses with the backplates and retainers for both faces of one door. Half Pair is a single rose for one face, which is what you want when you only need to replace one side or you are building a sectional set where the other face uses different trim. Both options exist in all 14 finishes offered.
4) Can I use the R046 Palm Spring rose with a mortise entry set, or is it only for tubular passage?
Both. The R046 passage rose can build out a tubular passage set or serve as trim on a Baldwin Estate mortise sectional entry set. The function is passage, meaning no lock or key, so any latching is handled by the separate latch or mortise lock you pair it with.
5) How far does the Baldwin R046 rose stand off the face of the door?
Projection is 0.25 inch, so it sits nearly flush. That matters where the door swings tight into a stop or the trim has to clear a strike plate or adjacent casing.
6) Is the Baldwin Palm Spring R046 rose solid brass, and is it suitable for a commercial building?
The substrate is brass, and Baldwin classes the Estate Series R046 as residential hardware. For high-traffic commercial openings you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 commercial lockset rather than Estate trim; the R046 is aimed at homes, model units and high-end residential interiors.
7) What finishes does the Baldwin R046 Palm Spring passage rose come in for matching other doors in the house?
Fourteen finishes: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Match the Baldwin finish number on your existing trim rather than the finish name to be sure the tone lines up.
8) Is the 056 Satin Nickel finish on the Baldwin R046 plated or a coating?
056 Satin Nickel is nickel plating over solid brass, finished as a satin matte PVD. You get the silver tone with brass weight underneath, and PVD holds up better to handling than a lacquered finish.
