Baldwin BAL-R049.003.PV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Baldwin R049 Hollywood Hills rose cover a standard 2-1/8 inch bored door?
No. Baldwin states outright that the R049 Hollywood Hills rose will not cover the 2.125 inch standard door preparation. If you're retrofitting an existing bore, the edge of the hole will show. Use it on new prep sized to the rose, or pick a rose with a larger footprint.
2) What comes in the box with a Baldwin R049 privacy rose, and what else do I need to order?
You get either one or two roses depending on whether you order the half pair or the full pair, plus the appropriate backplate and the retainer(s) that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and any adaptors are separate orders. So a rose order alone will not give you a working privacy set.
3) Should I buy the R049 as a pair or a half pair?
Order the pair when you're trimming both faces of the door, which is the normal privacy set on a bed or bath. The half pair is a single rose, for replacing one damaged side or for a door where only one face gets trim. Both choices are offered in every finish the R049 comes in.
4) Is the Baldwin R049 rose for a keyed lock or a bed and bath door?
Privacy function, so it's for bedrooms and bathrooms: it builds a tubular privacy set with a push button or turn on the inside and no key cylinder. If you need a keyed entry or a passage opening, you need the entry or passage rose in the same design, not this one.
5) What is the Baldwin R049 rose made of, and how does the finish hold up?
Solid brass substrate. The Lifetime Satin Nickel version is nickel plated over that brass as a PVD finish, which gives it the matte silver tone with real brass weight behind it. Brass also lets the living finishes like 031 Non-Lacquered Brass patina over time if that's the look you want.
6) Can I get the R049 Hollywood Hills rose in a black or bronze finish to match the rest of my hardware?
Yes. Dark options include 190 Satin Black, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 050 Satin Brass and Black, and 076 Graphite Nickel. Brass and nickel choices run 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, and 260 Polished Chrome. Every one of those is available as a pair or a half pair.
7) Is the Baldwin Estate R049 rose suitable for a commercial building or an apartment turn?
It's a residential Estate Series trim piece, not commercial rated hardware. For single family homes, condos, and high end multi-family unit interiors it's appropriate. For a commercial corridor or anywhere a graded cycle-tested lock is specified, go to commercial lockset trim instead.
8) Is the R049 a lock or just the trim plate?
Just the rose, the round trim plate that finishes the hole in the door face and anchors the knob or lever. It carries the backplate and retainers and nothing more. The latch mechanism and the knob or lever that actually operate the door are separate parts.
