Metallics UB025 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size are the Metallics UB025 u-bolt and nuts?
The UB025 runs 1/2-13, meaning a 1/2 inch diameter with 13 threads per inch (UNC), cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1. The two hex nuts that come with it are already matched to that thread, so you don't need to source nuts separately. Hex nut dimensions are per ASME B18.2.2, with a head width of 0.736 to 0.750 in. and a height of 0.427 to 0.448.
2) Does the Metallics UB025 u-bolt meet Buy American requirements for a federal job?
Yes. The UB025 is flagged both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant, with country of origin United States. That is the pairing a government, school district, or transit procurement officer needs on a domestic-content line item.
3) Do the nuts come with the Metallics UB025 u-bolt or do I order them separately?
Two hex nuts ship with each u-bolt. The UB025 is sold as a u-bolt with hex nuts, so nothing else is needed to make up the connection other than whatever plate or clamp you are bolting through.
4) How many u-bolts are in a box of Metallics UB025?
Ten per box, and 10 count is also the order minimum, so the box is the smallest quantity sold. Shipping weight for the box runs about 2989 g. Other sizes and quantities are available by request.
5) Is a zinc plated steel u-bolt like the UB025 OK outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
The UB025 is steel with a zinc finish. Zinc plating handles indoor and sheltered damp conditions, but it is not a stainless or hot dip galvanized part, so for direct weather exposure, coastal air, or wash-down areas most specs call for galvanized or 304/316 stainless instead. For interior conduit, pipe, and strut work it is the normal choice.
6) Can I use the UB025 u-bolt to hang pipe or conduit from a beam?
That is what a u-bolt of this type is for: it wraps the pipe or conduit and the two legs pass through a plate, strut, or bracket where the hex nuts tighten down. The UB025 is a 1/2-13 steel u-bolt with zinc finish, catalogued for electrical work, so conduit and pipe support is the typical application. Confirm the inside span of the bend clears your pipe OD before ordering, since u-bolts are sized to the pipe they wrap.
