Metallics UBS025 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics UBS025 U-bolt stainless, and can it go outdoors or in a wet location?
It is 18-8 stainless steel, both the bolt and the nuts. 18-8 is the standard austenitic grade used for exterior, damp, and washdown service, so it holds up on rooftop supports, exterior conduit runs, and mechanical rooms without the galvanic headaches of plated carbon steel against stainless strut or hardware.
2) Do the nuts come with the Metallics UBS025 U-bolt or do I order those separately?
Two hex nuts ship with each U-bolt, so nothing extra is needed to make the thread connection. What is not included is the mounting plate or saddle; if your detail calls for a backing plate across the two legs, that gets ordered separately.
3) How many U-bolts are in a box of Metallics UBS025?
Sold as a box of 10 pieces, with a minimum order of 10 each. Box weight comes in at 3266 g. If you need a different size or a different count for a job, Metallics lists other sizes and quantities as available by request.
4) Will a standard 1/2 inch wrench fit the nuts on the UBS025 U-bolt, and what thread do they take?
The threads are 1/2-13 UNC, 13 threads per inch, cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1, so any standard 1/2-13 nut or coupling mates with them. The supplied hex nuts measure 0.736 to 0.750 in across the flats, which is the 3/4 inch wrench size.
5) Does the Metallics UBS025 U-bolt meet Buy American requirements for a federal or public project?
It is flagged compliant for both Buy American and ARRA, which is what a government, school, or healthcare procurement file usually needs on a fastener line item. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your contract requires a single named origin on the certification, confirm the origin on the lot you receive.
6) What standards do the nuts and dimensions on the Metallics UBS025 U-bolt follow?
Dimensions follow ASME B18.2.2, the hex nut dimensional standard, and the nut material is to ASTM F594, the spec covering stainless steel nuts. Threads are ANSI/ASME B1.1. That combination is what an engineer or inspector looks for when a submittal calls out stainless fasteners to a recognized standard.
