1) Can Metallics JBLS52 lag bolts be used outdoors or in a damp location?
No. The JBLS52 is a zinc plated steel lag bolt intended for use in wood in non-corrosive environments. Zinc plating handles dry interior work, not weather exposure, treated lumber, or coastal air. For exterior or corrosive conditions you want a hot dip galvanized or 18-8 stainless lag of the same 3/8 x 7 size instead.
2) What size pilot hole does a 3/8 x 7 inch lag bolt need?
Pilot sizing comes off the shank, and the JBLS52 measures 0.360 to 0.388 inch outside diameter with 7 threads per inch.
