The Briscon SN Series brings together Briscon's zinc-plated, low carbon steel cable staples in five sizes, from the 1/2" wide SN-40 used for everyday NM cable up to the 1-11/32" wide SN-400 sized for 2/0 service entrance cable. Every staple is straight driving and burr free, with sharp tips that start easily without splitting wood and a recessed head that protects the cable jacket. Packaging runs from 100-pack and 500-pack boxes up to 5,000-count and 10,000-count buckets of the SN-40. Made in the USA.

Briscon SN-40-B-5M – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need a staple gun for these, or are they hammer driven?
Hammer driven into wood, no special tool required. The legs are pointed and burr free with sharp tips so they start without splitting framing, and the head is recessed to sit down over the cable without cutting the jacket. That makes them a hand-stapling item for rough-in and remodel work rather than a magazine-fed gun staple.
2) Are Briscon SN staples insulated, and can I use them in a damp location?
These are non-insulated staples, zinc plated low carbon steel, so the plating is the corrosion protection rather than a plastic saddle. Zinc plating resists rust, and the sizes cover UF cable (14/2 and 12/2 on the SN-40, up to 12/3 on the SN-100, 10/3 on the SN-300, 6/3 on the SN-400). If your spec calls for an insulated saddle over the cable, this is not that product.
3) What pack quantities can I buy, and which size comes in bulk buckets?
Only the 1/2 inch SN-40 goes bulk: 100-pack box, 500-pack box, 5,000-count bucket and 10,000-count bucket. The SN-100 comes in 100-pack and 500-pack. The three largest sizes, SN-300, SN-350 and SN-400, are 100-pack only. So if you are stocking a crew truck for NM rough-in, the SN-40-B-10M bucket is the volume option.
4) Can one staple size cover a whole residential job or do I need several?
Two usually do it. The SN-40 or SN-100 handles branch-circuit NM, AC, MC and UF, then you add whichever large size matches the service run: SN-300 for 8/2 through 6/3 SE, SN-350 for 4/3 SER and 2/3 SE, or SN-400 for 2/0 SE. The five sizes run 1/2 inch through 1-11/32 inch wide, so match the staple width to the cable's flat dimension and do not force a smaller crown over a larger jacket.
5) These used to be Briscon branded. Is the nVent Gardner Bender packaging the same staple?
Same staple. The Briscon line is now part of nVent Gardner Bender, alongside Gardner Bender, Sperry Instruments and Bergen, and nVent states the quality, specs, performance and reliability are unchanged.
