Cahaba CASS18UM13SB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size cabinet do I need for the Cahaba CASS18UM13SB bar sink?
Plan on an 18 inch base cabinet minimum. The sink itself measures 15 inches front to back by 12-3/4 inches wide overall, so an 18 inch cabinet leaves room for the undermount clips and the countertop cutout reveal.
2) Can I use this Cahaba bar sink in a restaurant or breakroom at a commercial property?
No. The CASS18UM13SB is built for residential use only and the manufacturer specifically says not to use it in commercial applications. For a bar or breakroom in a commercial building, spec a commercial-rated stainless bar sink instead.
3) Does the CASS18UM13SB have a faucet hole, or do I need to drill the counter?
There are no faucet holes in the sink. Because it mounts under the counter, the faucet or pot filler has to be drilled through the countertop or mounted on the wall or backsplash, so plan the faucet location before the slab is fabricated.
4) What is actually in the box with this Cahaba bar sink?
You get the sink, a drain assembly, the undermount mounting hardware, and a cutout template for the countertop fabricator. No basin rack is supplied, and there is no overflow drain. You still need a tailpiece and trap, a faucet, and the silicone or epoxy the countertop shop uses to set an undermount bowl.
5) Will this undermount bar sink work with a laminate countertop?
Undermount sinks need a solid surface counter, granite, quartz, or similar, where the cut edge can be polished and sealed. Cahaba calls out solid surface countertops for the CASS18UM13SB. On laminate, water gets into the exposed particleboard edge, so a drop-in or top-mount bar sink is the right call there.
6) How deep is the bowl on this 13 inch bar sink, and will it hold a stock pot?
The bowl is 7 inches deep with an interior of 13 by 10-3/4 inches and holds about 6 quarts. That is enough for glassware, a cutting board rinse, or a small pot, but it is a prep and bar bowl, not a main kitchen sink for sheet pans.
7) Is 18 gauge stainless heavy enough, and will this sink be noisy?
The CASS18UM13SB is 18 gauge 304 series 18/10 chrome nickel stainless, which is the heavier of the two common residential gauges (18 gauge is thicker than 20 or 22). For noise, it carries sprayed sound deadening plus a thick rubber pad, and an anti-condensation coating on the underside so the cabinet stays dry.
8) Will the brushed stainless finish match the other sinks and appliances in my units?
The finish is a brushed, commercial grade satin stainless in the silver family, which is the standard look that lines up with most stainless appliances and faucets. It is the only finish this model comes in, so multi-unit orders stay consistent across openings.
9) Is this bar sink light enough for one person to set during install?
At 8 pounds it is a one-man set. The rounded interior corners also make it easier to wipe out, which matters on turnover cleaning in rentals.
