Camden Door Controls CM-1120 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Camden CM-1100 key switch come with a mortise cylinder?
No cylinder is included by default. The CM-1100/1120 key switch is sold as the faceplate and switch assembly, and the mortise cylinder is a separate line. There is an order option for a 60KD 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder if you want it supplied with the switch; leave that option off and you supply your own cylinder and cam.
2) Should I order the SPST or the SPDT contact on a Camden key switch?
SPST Momentary N/O is the one for a simple door release: turn the key, the contact closes, the door unlocks, and it returns on release. Order the SPDT N/O and N/C Momentary version when the panel or controller needs both a normally open and a normally closed contact at once, for example releasing a maglock while simultaneously shunting an alarm input or signaling a second device. Both are offered on the single gang plate.
3) Will the Camden CM-1100 fit a standard single gang electrical box?
Yes, it is a flush mount single gang device. The faceplate measures 2-3/4 inches wide by 4-1/2 inches high, with 1.5 inches of depth behind the plate, so your back box has to clear that 1.5 inch depth plus the body of whatever mortise cylinder you install.
4) Is this Camden key switch tough enough for a public entrance or a school corridor?
It is built for commercial duty with vandal resistance in mind: a 1/4 inch thick faceplate and a one-piece faceplate and switch bracket, so the plate and the switch cannot be pried apart as separate pieces. That construction is why it gets specified for exterior entries, schools, and other exposed locations rather than a standard stamped plate.
5) Is the Camden CM-1100 a wireless or networked access control device?
No. It is a hardwired mortise key switch with no wireless communication. You run conductors from the contact back to the door controller, maglock power supply, or alarm panel. It carries no credential reader and no network connection, which is exactly why it is used as the mechanical override or manual release on an access control opening.
6) What do I need to order besides the key switch to finish the job?
Three things decide the order: the plate size (single gang), the contact arrangement (SPST Momentary N/O or SPDT N/O and N/C Momentary), and whether you want the 60KD 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder supplied with it. If you are keying into an existing system, skip the supplied cylinder and have your locksmith furnish a 1 to 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder with the correct cam. You will also need a single gang back box deep enough for the 1.5 inch device depth.
7) Can two switches be mounted in one Camden CM-1100 plate?
The plate accepts 1 or 2 contact switches behind a single key cylinder position, which is what lets one key turn drive two separate circuits on the same device.
