Camden Door Controls CM-2000-60KD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Camden CM-2000 key switch come with a mortise cylinder?
No. The CM-2000 ships as the faceplate and switch assembly only; the mortise cylinder and cam are sold separately. It accepts virtually any 1 inch to 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder, so you can key it into an existing system by supplying a cylinder in your own keyway with the correct cam.
2) Will the Camden CM-2000 narrow faceplate fit a narrow stile aluminum door frame?
The narrow faceplate measures 4-1/2 x 1-3/4 x 1-1/2 inches (114mm x 44mm x 42mm), which is what lets it land on a narrow stile or a tight jamb. A single gang version is also made at 4-1/2 x 2-3/4 x 1-1/2 inches (114mm x 70mm x 42mm) if you are mounting to a standard single gang box instead. The 1-1/2 inch depth is what you need behind the surface for the switch bracket and cylinder.
3) What is the difference between the CM-2000-60KD and the CM-2090-7012 key switch?
Two different switch functions. The CM-2000-60KD is SPST momentary with a 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, keyed different, which is the one you use to pulse a door strike or operator for a single release. The CM-2090-7012 is DPDT maintained with a red 12V LED, so the key holds the circuit in position and the LED shows state, which is what you want for arming, locking down, or disabling an operator until someone keys it back.
4) Can the Camden CM-2000 key switch handle the current for a 24V electric strike or maglock circuit?
The contacts are rated 6 A at 30 VDC, which covers typical 12V and 24V DC strike, maglock, and door operator control circuits. Switch life is rated at 100,000 cycles. For loads above that rating, switch a relay with the key switch rather than running the load through the contacts.
5) Can the CM-2000 key switch be keyed to match the rest of my building's locks?
Keying is decided by the cylinder, not the switch. The CM-2000-60KD is supplied keyed different, but because the housing takes virtually any 1 inch to 1-1/4 inch mortise cylinder, you can drop in a cylinder in your building's keyway and have the switch operate on the same key as the doors. The cylinder and cam are ordered separately.
6) Is the Camden CM-2000 key switch suitable for an exterior door or an unheated garage?
Operating temperature is listed as 32F to 85F (0C to +85C), so it is not a switch to put on an unprotected exterior wall in a freezing climate. In a vestibule, heated corridor, or conditioned parking area it is within range. The cast aluminum construction with a 1/4 inch thick faceplate is vandal resistant, which is the reason it gets specified in public-facing openings.
7) Can I get two separate outputs from one Camden CM-2000 key switch?
Yes. The one-piece faceplate and switch bracket accepts either 1 or 2 contact switches, so a single plate can drive two circuits, for example releasing a strike and signalling an alarm panel at the same time. The CM-2090-7012 is the DPDT maintained build, which gives you two independent transfer sets from one key throw.
8) What finish does the Camden CM-2000 key switch plate come in?
Standard finish is brushed aluminum on cast aluminum, which is why it blends with storefront and aluminum jamb work and with the 630/stainless look on adjacent push plates. Plan on brushed aluminum if you are standardizing the look across multiple openings in a building.
9) Is the Camden CM-2000 a wireless or networked access control device?
No. It is a hardwired mortise key switch, listed as electronic but with no wireless communication. You run conductors from the switch contacts to your strike, operator, or access panel. There is no radio, no credential reader, and nothing to enroll.
