1) Does the Camden CM-1000 key switch come with a cylinder, or do I supply my own?
No cylinder is included. The CM-1000 accepts standard mortise cylinders from 1 inch to 1-1/4 inch, so you key it into your existing system with whatever keyway the building already uses. The cylinder sits flush to the faceplate and no set screws are required to hold it.
2) Can the CM-1000 key switch be mounted outdoors?
Yes. It's built for high traffic outdoor or indoor use, with a 1/4 inch thick vandal resistant cast aluminum faceplate, a weatherproof gasket and a cast aluminum surface mount box. Watch the temperature range though: 32 F to 85 F. In a climate that drops below freezing or runs hotter than that, it is outside the rated range.
3) Will this key switch work with a maglock or an electric strike circuit?
The CM-1000 is a SPST momentary, normally open contact rated 6 A at 30 VDC. That suits it to a momentary release input on an access control panel, door controller, or low voltage relay for a maglock or electric strike, so long as your circuit stays within 30 VDC and 6 amps. It is a dry contact switch only, so it does not itself supply power to the lock.
4) Do I need to cut into the wall to install the CM-1000?
No wall cut-in needed. The switch ships with a heavy duty diecast surface box that mounts on the face of the wall, and the box has a 1/2 inch threaded conduit opening, so it can also go on pipe or a pedestal. Overall size is 4-1/2 x 2-3/4 x 2 inches (114 x 70 x 51 mm).
5) How is the CM-1000 wired in, and are the leads pre-terminated?
Wiring is color coded 18 AWG soldered leads with a heat shrink protective sleeve over the contacts, so there are no screw terminals to work loose in an exterior box. Run your pair through the 1/2 inch conduit opening and splice to the controller input.
6) Is this key switch tough enough for a high traffic commercial entrance?
It's a commercial grade device: 1/4 inch thick vandal resistant cast aluminum plate, diecast box, and a switch rated for 100,000 cycles. Tamper proof screws and the matching driver are supplied, so the plate can't be pulled off with a standard bit.
7) What finish does the CM-1000 come in, and will it match other exterior hardware?
Standard finish is brushed aluminum on the cast aluminum plate and box, which reads close to satin chrome or US26D trim on most exterior openings. Only the one model is offered, so every unit across a site will match.
8) Does the CM-1000 need a network connection or any programming?
None. It is a hardwired mechanical key switch with an electrical contact, with no wireless communication and nothing to program. Authorization is handled entirely by the mortise cylinder you install in it, so key control stays with your existing keying system.
