Camden Door Controls CM-120TX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What's the difference between the Camden CM-120i, CM-120wV2 and CM-120TX keypads?
Three different builds in the CM-120 keypad family. The CM-120i is the indoor model, running stand alone or Wiegand. The CM-120wV2 is the outdoor version, vandal and weather resistant with a metal back-lit keypad, still hardwired. The CM-120TX is also outdoor and vandal resistant with a metal backlit keypad, but it's fully wireless and battery powered, with the transmitter built in. Pick the wV2 if you have wire to the door and it's exposed, the TX if you don't.
2) Do I need anything else to make the Camden CM-120TX wireless keypad work?
Yes. The CM-120TX only transmits, so it needs a Camden CM-RX 91/92 Series receiver to do anything at the door. That receiver is sold separately and has to be ordered with it or the keypad is a dead end on the job.
3) Can I add wireless to a hardwired Camden CM-120 keypad later?
You can. The hardwired CM-120 Series keypads take wireless functions by plugging in a CM-TX99 wireless transmitter module. So a CM-120i or CM-120wV2 installed today can be given a wireless output later without swapping the keypad out of the door.
4) Will a Camden CM-120 keypad work with my existing access control panel?
The CM-120i runs either stand alone or Wiegand, so it can report to an existing access control panel over Wiegand rather than making the access decision itself. Camden calls the CM-120 Series Tri-Brid, meaning stand alone, Wiegand and optional wireless operation in the one unit. If you're feeding a panel, wire it as a Wiegand reader; if there's no panel, run it stand alone and it controls the door on its own.
5) Which Camden CM-120 keypad should I use on an exterior door?
Use the CM-120wV2 or the CM-120TX. Both are vandal and weather resistant with a metal back-lit keypad. The CM-120i is the indoor model and shouldn't go on an exposed opening, even under an overhang, if you want it to hold up.
6) How many users can a Camden CM-120 keypad hold?
999 users. That's enough to code an entire multi-family building or a mid-size commercial tenant individually rather than handing everyone one shared code, which is what makes it practical to delete a single departed tenant or contractor instead of re-coding the door.
7) Will the Camden CM-120TX battery keypad hold up in a cold climate?
Below 0 C (32 F), lithium batteries are recommended for the CM-120TX rather than standard alkaline. Alkaline cells lose capacity in the cold and you'll be back at the door replacing them. Lithium is the option to select at order time, so specify it up front on any unheated vestibule, gate or exterior opening in a freezing climate.
8) Is the Camden CM-120 keypad a surface mount or flush mount unit?
Flush mount. The CM-120 keypads are built to sit into the wall or mounting surface rather than stand proud of it, which matters where a surface box would get caught or vandalized.
9) Where are Camden CM-120 keypads manufactured?
North America. Camden builds the CM-120 Series keypads there, which is the answer a government, education or healthcare procurement office needs when domestic sourcing preferences apply to the purchase.
