Camden Door Controls CM-701SO-WI – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Camden CM-701SO pull station fit a standard single gang box?
Yes. The CM-70 Series pull stations are built for single gang mounting and the body protrudes only 3/4 inch off the wall face, so it sits nearly flush over a standard single gang box. Faceplate size is 4.5 by 3.5 by 1.375 inches.
2) What is the difference between CM-701SO and CM-701SO-PC?
Same blue pull station, two ways to order it. CM-701SO is the bare station; CM-701SO-PC ships with a clear plastic cover over the pull to discourage casual or accidental activation. Pick the -PC version for corridors, schools, or any public area where nuisance pulls are a concern.
3) Can the Camden CM-701SO blue pull station be reset after it is pulled, or does it need replacing?
It resets. The CM-70 Series stations are reset with a small screwdriver, so there is nothing to break and nothing to replace after an activation. That is what makes them practical for door release and emergency exit duty where the station gets exercised during testing or drills.
4) Do the switch contacts on the CM-701SO read normally open or normally closed?
Read the published switch configuration as the state when the station is closed and reset. Once the station is pulled and released, the contacts go to the opposite state. So a contact shown closed at reset opens on activation. Worth confirming on your wiring diagram before you terminate, because getting this backwards holds a mag lock released.
5) Is the CM-701SO a fire alarm pull station?
No. It is a blue access control pull station for door release and emergency exit applications, and the blue color is deliberately not the red of a fire alarm device. It is supplied with four message labels on the Universal models so you can mark it for the function it actually serves. Fire alarm initiating devices are a separate listed product line.
6) If I already have pull stations installed and only need tamper protection over them, is there an alternative to buying the Camden CM-701SO with the clear plastic cover?
Yes. The Camden CM-701SO is offered two ways, with a clear plastic cover (CM-701SO-PC) or without, so if you are specifying new stations you can order the cover as part of the station. If the stations are already on the wall, the Dortronics 6510/COV is an anti-tamper alarm cover made for 6500 Series pull stations and 5000 Series push buttons, so it is the cover-only route on those Dortronics devices rather than a cover for the Camden housing.
7) I need an audible alert at the door, not a manual release. Is a blue pull station the right part?
The Camden CM-701SO is a manually operated pull station rated to 30VDC, sized 4.5 inches high by 3.5 inches wide and protruding only 3/4 inch from a single gang box; it is the device a person pulls to release a door, and it makes no sound by itself. For audible output alone, the RCI 914 Series is a delayed egress sounder with field-selectable volume up to 102dB, and the Adams Rite 29-0218 is a piezo electric horn with multi-voltage compatibility. Those are signaling devices, not release controls, so on a delayed egress opening you may end up with both a station and a sounder.
8) Can I use a pull station instead of a request-to-exit switch in the exit device?
They solve the request differently. The Camden CM-701SO is a wall-mounted station on a single gang box that a person pulls, and it latches until reset with a small screwdriver. A request-to-exit switch lives inside the hardware and signals when the device is operated normally: Command Access CRSREXKIT-ED is a field installable REX kit for Cal Royal 22/98 and Sargent 80 Series exit devices with an SPDT switch, CYREXKIT-ED is a field REX kit for Corbin 5000 and Yale 7000 exit devices rated 5A, and REX-KIT-ML is a field installed REX kit for ML1-Series mortise locks. Choose the station when you want a deliberate, resettable emergency release; choose a REX kit when the signal should come from normal egress.
9) What voltage can I run through the Camden CM-701SO pull station contacts?
The station is rated to 30VDC, which covers the usual 12 and 24 volt DC access control and mag lock circuits it gets wired into. It switches the release circuit; it is not a power supply, so the door power still comes from your access control board or transformer.
10) What else do I need to order to make a Camden CM-701SO release a mag lock?
The station is just the switch. You still need a power supply for the lock and, depending on the layout, relay distribution to fan the release out to more than one door. The Adams Rite 4605 transformer takes 115 VAC down to 12/24 VAC with a 40 volt-amp output, and the Locknetics RDB4 is a four-output relay distribution board. Wire the station contacts per their reset-state convention so the pull breaks power to the lock.
11) Is a pull station or a touchless/push bar the better exit release for a busy corridor door?
The Camden CM-701SO is intended for emergency door release and exit applications and stays latched once pulled until it is reset with a small screwdriver, which suits infrequent, deliberate use. For everyday egress on a 36 inch door, the DynaLock 6451-36 is an exit sensor bar sized for a 36 inch door, and the Cal-Royal ACT-36 is a 36 inch vertical actuator bar with logo and text for 8600 Series devices. Many corridor openings carry a daily-use bar plus a pull station for the emergency case.
12) Does the Camden CM-701SO need a separate power supply, and what would I pair it with?
The Camden CM-701SO is a switching device rated to 30VDC, so it interrupts or makes a circuit rather than supplying one. For the low voltage source, the Adams Rite 4605 is a 115 VAC to 12/24 VAC transformer with 40 volt-amp output, and where one input has to drive several outputs the Locknetics RDB4 is a four-output relay distribution board. Confirm your lock or magnet draw against whatever supply you choose.
13) I need to mount an emergency release on an all-glass storefront door where there is no gang box. What are my options?
The Camden CM-701SO is designed for single gang mounting in a wall and protrudes 3/4 inch, so it needs a wall location rather than a glass leaf. On glass openings, Securitron Glass Door Accessories cover the glass door mounting hardware, and the Securitron SWB is a wood bracket for SAM surface mount installations where the substrate will not take a recessed box. Keep the CM-701SO on an adjacent wall surface and use the glass-specific hardware at the leaf.
14) Is the Camden CM-701SO rated for commercial use?
Yes, it is a commercial-duty device, sold for emergency pull station control in commercial buildings rather than residential use. Light unit weight, 0.39 lb, so nothing about the mounting is demanding beyond a standard gang box.
15) Does the Camden CM-701SO have a built-in sounder?
The CM-70 Series covers both plain Universal pull stations and versions with a sounder. If you need local audible annunciation on the door and your station does not include it, a separate sounder such as the RCI 914 Series delayed egress sounder, with field-selectable volume up to 102dB, handles that duty, as does the Adams Rite 29-0218 piezo electric horn with multi-voltage compatibility.
