Camden Door Controls CM-332 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What voltage does the Camden SureWave CM-332 touchless switch run on, and how much current does it draw?
The CM-332 is line powered and accepts 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, drawing 40 mA. That range lets it share the same 12V or 24V supply you are already running for a mag lock, strike or operator, so in most retrofits no separate power supply is needed. Budget the 40 mA draw into your supply's total load.
2) Can the CM-332 switch both a door operator and a lock at the same time?
Yes. The CM-332 carries two relays with multi-function action, so one output can trigger the automatic operator while the second releases the lock. Each contact is rated 3 Amps at 30 V, which covers a typical strike or mag lock coil directly; anything heavier should be switched through an interposing relay.
3) Will the Camden CM-332 mount in the single gang box already in my wall?
There is a single gang faceplate version, so it drops onto a standard single gang box. Narrow and double gang faceplates are also offered. Pick the plate to match the box you have: narrow for a mullion or door frame, single gang for a standard wall box, double gang where you want the larger plate or more room behind for wiring.
4) Is the CM-332 fail-safe or fail-secure?
Field selectable on the CM-332, so you set it at install rather than ordering a different part. That matters on egress doors where an AHJ wants the lock to release on power loss, and on secure openings where it must stay locked.
5) Can the CM-332 be used outdoors on an exterior entry?
No. The CM-332 is rated for indoor commercial use only. For an exterior vestibule or weather-exposed entry you need a switch built for outdoor service; mounting this one outside exposes the electronics to moisture it is not sealed against.
6) Does the touchless switch have inputs for a request-to-exit device and a door contact?
Both. The CM-332 accepts REX and DPS (door position switch) inputs, so an exit device switch or motion sensor can trigger the same outputs, and the door contact lets the switch see whether the door is actually closed before it re-times or re-locks.
7) Do I have to wave my hand right on the plate, or can the sensing range be adjusted?
Range is adjustable on the CM-332. It uses an active infrared sensor, so it reads a hand passing in front of the plate with no contact at all, and you tune how far out it picks up during commissioning. Useful where a switch sits in a busy corridor and you need to shorten the range to stop nuisance activations from passing traffic.
8) What is the difference between Event and Toggle mode on the CM-332?
Those are the two relay operating modes. Event gives you a momentary activation with a hold open timer, which is what you want on a public restroom or entry door served by an operator. Toggle latches the relay on with one wave and off with the next, which suits an application where a door needs to be held unlocked or an operator kept in automatic until someone waves again.
9) What finishes does the Camden CM-332 come in, and is the light ring something I add later?
Two finishes: black and stainless steel. The tri-color light ring is a plug-in module that shows red, green or blue and can be driven by the switch or remotely, and it is a purchase option rather than standard, so you specify with or without it. Light ring plates cover single gang, double gang and 6 inch round stainless faceplates.
10) Does the CM-332 work with a wireless receiver, or is it hard-wired only?
Both are possible. The CM-332 is line powered and hard wires to your relays and inputs, with an optional wireless transmitter so it can also signal a receiver at the operator or controller. That is the workaround when there is no practical wire path from the switch location back to the door.
11) How big is the CM-332 faceplate, for planning a wall or mullion layout?
Published dimensions are 5.5 inches wide, 5.25 inches long and 2 inches high, at 0.4 lb. Check the narrow version against your mullion or frame face before committing if space is tight.
12) Why is the CM-332 called a blank faceplate switch, and does it matter for a hospital or school install?
Blank means the plate carries no printed wheelchair symbol or wording, just the sensing area. Facilities standardizing on unmarked plates, or ones adding their own engraved or applied graphics, choose the blank. If your opening needs the accessibility symbol shown at the actuator, a printed faceplate version is the one to specify instead.
