Camden Door Controls CM-332/40 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What voltage does the Camden CM-332 touchless switch run on, and does it need its own power supply?
The CM-332 is line powered, not battery powered, and accepts 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC. Current draw is 40 mA, so it can usually share the low voltage supply already feeding the door operator or maglock as long as that supply has the headroom.
2) Will the CM-332 switch handle the load of my door operator or maglock circuit?
Its relay contacts are rated 3 Amps at 30 V. That is fine for switching an automatic operator's activation input or a low voltage control circuit. It is not a power switch for anything drawing more than 3 A, and it is not rated for line voltage loads, so a locking device beyond that draw needs to be switched through a separate power relay.
3) What is the difference between the narrow, single gang and double gang CM-332 faceplates?
The faceplate choice is about what you are mounting to. Narrow (/N) suits a mullion or narrow stile where a single gang plate will not sit flat. Single Gang (/S) fits a standard single gang box or ring. Double Gang (/W) covers a two gang opening. All three are offered in black and in stainless steel.
4) Does the CM-332 do more than just pulse the door open?
It carries two relays with multi function action, and the operating mode is selectable between Event and Toggle. Event gives you a timed activation for normal push-to-open traffic; Toggle latches the output on until the next wave, which is how you hold a door unlocked or hold an operator in automatic. Two relays let you drive the operator and the lock, or an operator and a light, from one wave.
5) Can I wire a request-to-exit device and a door position switch into the CM-332?
Yes, the switch has REX and DPS inputs onboard. That lets a panic device or exit sensor trigger the same relay, and lets the switch see whether the door is actually closed before it re-locks or re-arms.
6) Can the CM-332 be used outside, on an exterior entrance?
No. It is specified for indoor use, so keep it on the interior side of the vestibule or lobby. An exterior push plate or activation device needs to be a weather rated model.
7) Can the CM-332 be set up fail safe or does it have to be ordered that way?
Fail safe versus fail secure is field selectable on the CM-332, so one part covers both. You set it during install to match the lock: fail safe for a maglock or electric strike that must release on power loss, fail secure where the opening has to stay locked.
8) How does the CM-332 sense a hand, and can I change how close you have to get?
It uses an active infrared air sensor with an adjustable operating range, plus selectable motion sensing. Tightening the range keeps passing traffic in a tight corridor from triggering the door; opening it up suits a wheelchair user approaching a restroom door.
9) Is the tri-color light ring something I add later or do I order it with the switch?
Both routes work. The light ring is a plug-in part, and the CM-332 is offered with or without it in every faceplate size and both finishes. It shows red, green or blue, driven either by the switch itself or remotely, which is how you indicate locked versus unlocked at the door.
10) Does the CM-332 have a wireless option so I don't have to pull wire to the door?
Wireless communication is supported, with the option for a wireless transmitter. The switch itself is still line powered, so you need low voltage at the switch location even when the signal back to the operator or receiver goes over the air.
11) How much wall space does the CM-332 take up?
The switch measures 5.5 x 5.25 x 2 inches and weighs 0.4 lb. Worth checking the 2 inch dimension against the depth of the box you are mounting into before you commit the opening.
12) Is this switch suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential product?
The SureWave CM-332 is a commercial access control device, meant for door activation in buildings where germ transfer at the door matters, such as healthcare, schools and offices. Hold open timers, REX and DPS inputs, and field selectable fail safe or fail secure operation are all commercial access control features rather than residential ones.
