SUREWAVE CM-325 SERIES HAND ICONFACEPLATE TOUCHLESS SWITCH

The CM-325 from Camden is a short-range hands-free switch that’s part of the Sure-Wave Hands-Free Switches line. This wired momentary switch comes with two infrared sensors that will detect body and hand motion. It uses Camden’s ‘microburst’ sensing technology to give the most accurate readings. The switch has an adjustable time delay of anywhere between 1 to 5 seconds and a response time of 100 MS.

As a short-range switch, it’s activation range is from 2” to 18” and it can be set to be either a failsafe or fail secure. This is a single relay switch.

Camden Door Controls CM-325/40S – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Camden SureWave CM-325 touchless switch run on my existing 12V or 24V door power supply?
The CM-325 accepts 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, so it drops onto virtually any low-voltage access control or door operator supply already on the job. Current draw is only 40 mA, so it adds almost nothing to your power budget. The onboard relay is rated 3 amps at 30 V, which covers typical operator inputs, maglock circuits and strike relay triggers.
2) How close does your hand have to be to activate the Camden CM-325 hands-free switch?
Activation range is 2 to 18 inches, so it is a short-range switch. A user has to deliberately present a hand at the faceplate, which is what you want on a corridor or vestibule where people walk past the wall constantly. If you need someone to trigger the door from several feet away, this is the wrong range class of switch. Two infrared sensors read body and hand motion, and response time is 100 milliseconds.
3) Which faceplate size of the Camden CM-325 do I order for a single-gang box versus a narrow door frame mount?
Three faceplate sizes are offered. Single gang is the base CM-325/40 (black) or CM-325/40S (stainless). The /N narrow plate, CM-325/40N or CM-325/40SN, is the one for tight mullions and narrow frame faces. The /W double gang plate is CM-325/40W or CM-325/40SW. All three are available in both black and stainless steel.
4) Can the Camden CM-325 be set up fail-safe for a maglock opening?
Fail-safe or fail-secure is field selectable on the CM-325, so one part covers a maglock door that must release on power loss and a strike door that must stay locked. You set it at install rather than ordering a different model.
5) How long does the Camden CM-325 hold the door release once someone waves at it?
Output hold time is adjustable from 1 to 5 seconds. That is enough to trigger an auto operator or drop a maglock long enough for the operator to take over. If your application needs a latched output instead of a timed pulse, the relay also runs in Toggle mode as well as Event mode.
6) Is one CM-325 relay enough, or do I need two outputs to run a maglock and an operator together?
The CM-325/40 is a single relay switch. If your sequence needs one output to drop the lock and a separate output to signal the automatic operator, one relay will not do both independently. For a single-action job (trigger the operator, or release the lock) the one relay is all that is required.
7) Can the Camden CM-325 be mounted outside on an exterior entrance?
Yes, it is rated for indoor and outdoor application, and stainless steel faceplates are offered for exterior exposure. It is a commercial-duty device rather than a residential one.
8) Does the Camden CM-325 accept a request-to-exit or door position input?
It takes both a REX input and a door contact input. That lets you tie in an exit device or motion REX and monitor door position at the switch instead of running those legs back to a separate controller.
9) Will the Camden CM-325 false-trigger from people walking past in a busy corridor?
Two infrared sensors using Camden's microburst sensing read body and hand motion, and the active infrared detection field only reaches 2 to 18 inches off the plate. Traffic passing beyond that distance is outside the field. For high-traffic corridors, the narrow plate mounted on the frame face keeps the sense field out of the walking path.
10) What is the footprint of the Camden CM-325 faceplate on the wall?
Stated dimensions are 5.5 x 5.25 x 2 inches with a product weight of 0.4. Check that against the clear wall or mullion face you have before you commit to a plate size; the /N narrow plate exists for openings where the wider plates will not sit flat.
11) Is the CM-325 touchless switch hardwired or does it transmit wirelessly?
It is a wired momentary switch, and it also carries wireless communication capability. So you can run it on a hard-wired low-voltage leg to the operator or controller, which is how most retrofits on existing openings get done.
