Camden Door Controls CM-333/43S – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What voltage does the Camden SureWave CM-333 touchless switch run on?
The CM-333 runs on 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, drawing 40 mA. That lets it share the same low voltage supply already feeding a maglock or strike on most access control jobs, so you usually don't need a separate power source at the switch location.
2) Can the CM-333 touchless switch drive a maglock or electric strike directly?
Not directly on anything heavy. The CM-333 has one relay rated 3 Amps at 30 V, so it's a switching contact for a control panel, power supply or operator input. Route lock power through a power supply or controller and use the relay as the trigger.
3) Is the CM-333 wave switch fail-safe or fail-secure?
Field selectable. You set the relay contact configuration at install, so the same part works whether the opening uses a fail-safe maglock or a fail-secure strike. It also has Event and Toggle relay operating modes, which is what lets the 'wave to lock' faceplate work as a latching lock/unlock rather than a momentary pulse.
4) Alkaline or lithium battery version of the CM-333, which should I order?
Both faceplate options ship as either alkaline or lithium battery versions. Lithium is the one to pick for exterior or unheated openings, since the switch is rated for indoor and outdoor use and cold is where alkaline cells fall off. For a heated interior corridor either works.
5) Does the CM-333 touchless switch have a request-to-exit or door position input?
Yes, it takes both REX and DPS inputs. That lets the switch see when the door is actually open and coordinate with an exit device or other release, which matters on a 'wave to lock' setup where you don't want the relay latching while the door is still standing open.
6) How does a wave-to-open switch actually sense your hand, and will it false trigger?
The CM-333 uses an active infrared air sensor with an adjustable operating range and selectable motion sensing, so you dial the detection distance back on a tight vestibule or extend it in a wide corridor. Range adjustment is the fix when people walking past are tripping it.
7) Can the CM-333 be used wirelessly instead of running wire back to the door?
There's an option for a wireless transmitter on the CM-333, so the switch can signal the receiver without a home run to the operator. Note the switch itself is line powered at 12/24V, so you still bring power to the plate even when the signal goes wireless.
8) Is the CM-333 hold open timer adjustable for an ADA door operator?
The CM-333 includes hold open timer settings, so you can set how long the relay stays energized to suit the operator or strike downstream. Timer setup and relay mode selection are covered in the Camden SureWave installation guide supplied with the series.
9) Will the /43 hand icon 'Wave to Lock' faceplate match my other Camden wave plates?
The /43 is the hand icon with 'Wave to Lock' text, in stainless steel across every size offered. If your other openings are labeled 'Wave to Open' or 'Push to Open', the graphic will differ even though the plate finish and CM-333 body are the same. For a building standardizing a fleet of doors, order the same icon code on every opening that performs the same function.
