1) What trade sizes does the Carlon 22-1/2 degree Schedule 80 PVC elbow come in?
Two trade sizes: 3 inch (part UB5AL) and 4 inch (part UB5AN). Both are the standard radius, gray Schedule 80 version. If your run is smaller than 3 inch trade size, you need a different Carlon elbow part number.
2) Can I glue a Schedule 80 elbow to Schedule 40 PVC conduit of the same trade size?
Yes. Trade size governs the socket, so a 3 inch or 4 inch Schedule 80 elbow solvent welds onto Schedule 40 rigid nonmetallic conduit of the same trade size. Schedule 80 has thicker walls and a smaller inside diameter, so the difference shows up in fill capacity and impact resistance, not in the joint.
3) When do I need Schedule 80 instead of Schedule 40 for a conduit elbow?
Schedule 80 is the choice where the conduit is exposed to physical damage, such as risers up a wall, bollard areas, loading docks, and transitions out of the ground.
