Carlon E990E – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size conduit does the Carlon E990 access pull elbow fit?
The Carlon access pull elbow with gasket comes in two trade sizes: 1/2 inch (E990D) and 3/4 inch (E990E). Pick the one matching the conduit run it is going into. Both are gray rigid PVC and are made for Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 conduit, so a 3/4 inch run needs the E990E even if the rest of the box stock is 1/2 inch.
2) Does the Carlon access pull elbow come with the gasket, or do I order that separately?
The gasket is part of the fitting. The E990 ships with the gasket built in, so the only thing to specify when ordering is trade size, 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch. Nothing extra to add to the order to seal the cover.
3) Is this pull elbow OK for an outdoor or underground conduit run?
Yes for both. The gasketed cover seals against moisture and dirt, and the rigid non-metallic body will not corrode the way a metal condulet does in wet soil or coastal air. It is used on underground electrical distribution and outdoor installations as well as inside commercial and industrial buildings.
4) Can I replace a metal pull elbow with the Carlon PVC one on the same run?
Only if the run itself is PVC. The E990 is a rigid non-metallic fitting made to solvent weld to Schedule 40 and 80 PVC conduit, not to thread onto rigid metal conduit. If the existing elbow is a metal condulet on threaded rigid or IMC, this is not a drop-in swap. Where the run is already PVC and someone put a metal body in the middle of it, the PVC pull elbow in the matching trade size is the correct fitting.
5) Will a gray Carlon pull elbow match the PVC conduit already on my building?
Gray is the standard color for electrical PVC conduit and fittings, and the E990 is gray, so it blends with existing gray Schedule 40 and 80 runs on exposed walls. For a property manager standardizing exposed conduit across a portfolio, both trade sizes are the same gray, so 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch runs look consistent.
6) What is the manufacturer part number for a 3/4 inch Carlon access pull elbow?
The 3/4 inch version is Carlon E990E, and the 1/2 inch is E990D. Those are the numbers to quote on a purchase order or cross against a distributor's stock list.
