2) Will a Carlon LB conduit body work with Schedule 80 PVC, or only Schedule 40?
Both. The E986 LB body is rated for use with Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 conduit, so the same fitting serves a standard above-ground run and a Schedule 80 run where physical damage protection is required. Sizing is by trade size, so a 2 inch body takes 2 inch conduit in either schedule.
3) What is a Type LB conduit body actually used for on a job?
An LB is the fitting you use where a conduit run has to make a 90 degree turn, typically coming out of a wall and turning down or along it, with a removable cover so you can pull conductors through the corner instead of trying to pull them around a bend. The Carlon E986 is the gray PVC version of that fitting. If your turn is up or down in the same plane rather than back into the wall, an LB is the wrong letter, you want an LL, LR or T body instead.
4) Should I use a PVC conduit body or a metallic one in a corrosive or outdoor location?
PVC is the reason to pick the E986.
