1) What is the difference between the CDVI A22KNB and the standard A22K Krypto controller?
The A22KNB is the no-box version of the A22K. Same 2-door Krypto controller board, but it ships without the enclosure so you can drop it into housing that is already on the wall or rack several boards together in one cabinet in the technical room. If you are replacing an aging panel and the old back box and conduit runs are sound, this is the part that reuses them. If you have no existing enclosure, you need the boxed A22K instead, because the A22KNB does not include one.
2) Will the CDVI A22KNB controller work with my existing Wiegand card readers?
The A22KNB reads 26, 30 and 44 bit Wiegand, plus Track 2 ABA, so most standard proximity readers on an existing system will land straight on it. It takes reader and keypad units for card plus PIN, all CDVI readers, and third party readers if they are compatible. There are 2 reader inputs, one per door. Confirm your reader's Wiegand bit format is 26, 30 or 44 before you cut it over, since a proprietary format outside those will not read.
3) How many doors can a CDVI Krypto A22KNB control, and can I expand it to a bigger site?
Two doors per board. Beyond that it scales two ways: over on-board Ethernet you can network up to 10 A22 units together, and on the RS-485 bus you can add up to 4 A22 units per A22. So a single controller covers a pair of doors, and a networked group covers a building without a separate head-end for each opening. Hardware modules auto-detect, so there are no DIP switches to set when you add them.
4) Will the CDVI A22KNB power my maglocks and electric strikes, or do I need a separate power supply?
Power is on the board. It has a 3.3A switching supply that runs on 85 to 264Vac at 50/60Hz, so it takes 120V or 240V without a separate transformer. Two lock outputs deliver 750mA each at 12Vdc, which covers typical 12V electric strikes and most 12V maglocks. Auxiliary outputs are 1A at 12Vdc with fuseless protection. Check your lock's inrush and holding current against 750mA; a 24V lock or a high-draw device needs its own supply.
5) I need a complete CDVI 2-door access control system, not just the board. What should I order?
The A22KNB is the controller by itself, so it assumes you already have an enclosure, readers and credentials. For a full package, the CDVI Americas A22KITSTB Atrium 2-door kit bundles the A22 controller with two STARPB readers and 15 credentials. Take the A22KNB only when you are swapping a board into housing that is already installed and you are keeping the readers already on the doors.
6) What is the difference between the CDVI A22KNB and the A22KITSTB Atrium 2-door kit?
Both control two doors, but they are packaged for different jobs. The A22KNB is the "No-Box" controller board: it ships without a housing so it can drop into an existing enclosure when an old system is being modernised, or be grouped with other boards in one cabinet in the technical room. The A22KITSTB is sold as a complete 2-door kit built around the A22 with two STARPB readers and 15 credentials included. Choose the A22KNB when the cabinet, readers and credentials are already on site or specified separately; choose the A22KITSTB when the opening needs the reading hardware and credentials supplied with the controller.
7) What happens to the CDVI Krypto A22 doors when building power drops?
The board takes battery backup: one 12Vdc gel type battery, either 4.5Ah or 7Ah. That battery is not part of the controller, so order it with the job. Note the no-box A22KNB has no enclosure, which means you also need somewhere in your existing housing or cabinet to sit the battery.
8) How many door contacts and request-to-exit devices can I wire to a CDVI A22KNB?
Six multi-purpose inputs, or 12 if you use zone doubling. Across two doors that is enough for door position contacts, REX sensors and an auxiliary input or two per opening without adding a module. There are also 2 Form C dry contact relays rated 5A at 250Vac, 7A at 125Vac and 7A at 30Vdc, which is what you use for auxiliary switching like an automatic operator trigger, alarm shunt or lighting.
9) Should I use a CDVI A22 panel or a door-mounted controller like the Schlage CTE ENGAGE for a two-door job?
Two different architectures. The A22KNB is a panel-based controller: one board in a cabinet, wired out to two doors, with its own power supply, lock outputs, inputs and relays, and Ethernet or RS-485 to other A22 boards.
