1) Do I need a junction box behind the wall to install the Centaur PLVP1G low voltage plate?
No box required. The PLVP1G is a rework (old work) plate with integrated mounting wings that clamp onto the existing wallboard, so you cut the opening, pull your cable through, and screw the plate down against the drywall. That is what makes it usable in a finished wall where you cannot get a box in without opening up the surface.
2) Can I run coax, cat6 and speaker wire through a Centaur PLVP1G plate?
Yes. The PLVP1G is a pass-through low voltage plate for data, audio, video and control cabling. It covers the opening and secures the cable run at the wall; it is not a device plate, so it carries no jacks or inserts of its own. Terminate your cable at the equipment end or at a separate keystone plate if you want a jack.
3) Will the PLVP1G cover a standard single-gang cutout?
It is a 1-gang plate measuring 4.25 by 2.5 inches, which is standard single-gang wall plate footprint. It will cover a normal single-gang opening in drywall. For a two-device opening you need a 2-gang plate instead.
4) Is the Centaur low voltage plate sold individually or in a pack?
It ships as a 12-piece pack of the PLVP1G in white plastic. That works out well for a multi-unit or multi-room retrofit where you are dropping a plate at every TV or data location, but if you only need one opening covered you will still be buying twelve.
5) Is a plastic low voltage plate acceptable, or do I need metal?
The PLVP1G is non-metallic plastic. Since low voltage cabling carries no line-voltage conductors, a non-metallic plate is the normal choice and avoids any concern about a conductive plate near a cable bundle. Where a job spec calls for a metal plate or a fire-rated assembly, use the specified product instead.
6) Can I use the PLVP1G in a commercial building or is it residential only?
Both, within limits. The plate is intended for retrofit work in residential and light commercial spaces, so apartments, offices, and tenant fit-outs are typical. Heavy commercial or institutional openings that call for a boxed, metal, or rated assembly should get the product named on the drawing.
7) What color does the Centaur 1-gang low voltage plate come in?
White only, in plastic. If the other plates on the wall are ivory, almond, or black, this will not match, and there is no alternate color on the PLVP1G to order instead.
