No handing to specify. The CL5250 is non handed, so the same lock goes on a door hung left or right. That also means a property manager stocking spares only has to carry one part number for openings that swing both ways.
2) What does back-to-back mean on the CL5250, and do I need it?
Back to back means there is an independent keypad plate on both faces of the door, so a code is required to get through from either direction. That suits a room you need to control entry AND exit on, such as a secure store or a records room. If you only need to control entry and want free egress from inside, back to back is more lock than the job needs.
3) Which CL5250 mortise lock option should I order if we key our building on small format interchangeable core?
Order the SFIC version. The CL5250 is offered in three builds: Standard mortise lock, mortise lock with SFIC prep, and the Code In/Out back to back configuration. The SFIC version does not come with a core or keys, so pull a core from your existing system to keep the opening on your master key.
4) Will the CL5250 drop into an existing ANSI mortise pocket?
The CL5250 is built as an ANSI mortise lock for 86 prep, so it goes into a door already machined for a standard ANSI/86 mortise pocket rather than needing a bored cylindrical prep. If your existing doors are prepped for a cylindrical lockset, this is not a swap; you would need a door with mortise prep or a different lock body style.
5) How many people can I give codes to on a Codelocks CL5250?
Up to 80 user codes are stored, each 4, 5 or 6 digits long, plus up to 10 one-time codes for contractors or one-off visitors. Codes are added and changed at the keypad on the door, so there is no software or programming cable to manage. For a property manager turning over tenants or a school issuing staff codes, that is the whole workflow at the door.
