Color-Keyed CLK-60248 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can Color-Keyed two hole long barrel lugs be used on copper conductors, or aluminum only?
These Color-Keyed two hole long barrel lugs are rated for both aluminum and copper code conductors from 2/0 AWG through 700kcmil. The lug body itself is aluminum with a tinned surface, which is what makes the dual-rated copper use possible and keeps the aluminum-to-copper contact from oxidizing.
2) I need a lug for 600kcmil cable landing on a 3/8 inch stud. Is that available?
No. At 600kcmil the only bolt size offered is 1/2 inch (part 60275). The 3/8 inch hole tops out at 500kcmil (part 60271). For a 600kcmil conductor on a 3/8 inch stud you would need a different lug family or an adapter arrangement.
3) Are these Color-Keyed lugs UL listed for electrical inspection?
Yes, they are listed under UL file E9809. That is the reference an inspector or submittal reviewer will want for a compression termination on a service upgrade, switchgear, or motor control center.
4) Why choose a two hole lug instead of a single hole lug on a bus bar?
Two bolt holes stop the lug from rotating on the pad under vibration or fault current, which is why they are specified on switchgear, motor control centers, and transformer connections. A single hole lug can spin and loosen the connection. These Color-Keyed lugs have two fixing holes and a straight connecting angle, so the barrel comes off the pad in line rather than turning 45 or 90 degrees.
5) Do these lugs have a sight hole to check conductor insertion before crimping?
No. These are solid-barrel lugs with no inspection window, so set your strip length against the barrel depth and seat the conductor fully against the shoulder before you crimp. If your spec requires visual verification of insertion, you need a sight hole version instead.
6) Is this a slender flange lug for tight pad spacing on a breaker?
No, these are standard flange two hole lugs, not the slender flange style. If you are stacking lugs on close-centered breaker pads or a crowded bus, measure your pad spacing first, because the standard tongue width may not clear.
7) What does the long barrel on these cable lugs actually get me over a standard barrel?
The long barrel gives more contact length along the conductor, which spreads the compression over more crimps and lowers connection resistance. It is the usual choice where the termination carries sustained high current or sees thermal cycling. Note these are uninsulated, so the barrel and any exposed strand need taping or a boot if the installation calls for covered terminations.
8) How do Color-Keyed two hole aluminum lugs ship for a large job, and are they sold in boxes?
They are packed 5 per inner box with 50 per outer carton. That pack structure is worth knowing when you are buying lugs by the hundred for a service upgrade or a switchgear lineup, since weight runs about 21.19 lbs per 100 pieces.
