2) EPT 2 or EPT 10 - which wire option do I need for my electrified lock?
It comes down to current versus circuit count. The EPT 2 carries 2 wires of 18 AWG and up to 2 Amps at 24VDC, which is the one for a single electrified lock, strike, or exit device trim that pulls real current. The EPT 10 carries 10 wires of 24 AWG but only 1 Amp at 24VDC total, and it is what you order when you need monitoring back to the panel as well as power: latch status, request-to-exit, door position, plus the lock. If you have a high-inrush electric latch retraction device, the 2 Amp EPT 2 is the correct choice; ten thin wires will not feed it.
3) Can I use a concealed power transfer on a fire rated door?
The CAT EPT is UL 10C listed for up to 3 hours and meets UBC classification, so it can go into a fire rated opening within that rating. That is the spec to check first, because cutting a frame and door edge on a labeled door with an unlisted transfer voids the label.
4) Will a CAT EPT work on an aluminum storefront door, or only hollow metal?
Aluminum, wood, and steel doors and frames all take the CAT EPT. The unit mounts into the door and frame edges, so what matters is that the edge can accept the 9 x 1.25 x 1.625 inch housing and the door is at least 1-3/4 inches thick. On a narrow stile aluminum door, confirm the stile depth against that housing before you cut.
5) Should I run an electric hinge or a concealed power transfer to get power to the door?
An electric transfer hinge puts the wiring through a hinge you have to swap, which ties your power path to the hinge schedule and is exposed at the hinge line. The CAT EPT is a separate unit mortised into the door and frame edge above the top hinge, fully concealed when the door is closed, so the existing hinges stay as specified and there is nothing visible or reachable to tamper with on a secured opening. Pick the EPT when the door is already hung on continuous or spec-matched hinges you do not want to replace, or when the opening is fire rated and needs a 3 hour UL 10C listed transfer.
6) Do I need anything else to land the wires, or does the transfer come with connectors?
Crimp connectors are included with the CAT EPT for the splices at each end, and the back boxes are part of the unit. What you supply is the wire pull from the frame back to the power supply and the electrified device at the door end, plus the raceway or conduit in the frame.
