1) Does the ALL-3 conduit body come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
Cover and gasket are separate catalog numbers on the ALL-3. Die cast cover is CV-3, stamped aluminum cover is SCV-3. Gaskets are GKV-3 in composition or GKN-3 in neoprene. If you want it supplied as a set, the D Pak number DALL-3-CG covers body, cover and gasket together. The body only becomes weather resistant once the cover and gasket are fitted.
2) How many conductors can I legally put through the ALL-3 conduit body?
The ALL-3 has 11.8 cubic inches of volume, which is the figure you use for box fill when you are splicing inside it. For pull-through only with no splices, the body just has to meet the conduit bending radius rules. Count your conductors and devices against that 11.8 cu in before you plan a splice in it.
3) Can I use the Thomas & Betts ALL-3 outdoors or in a wet location?
Threaded aluminum body, and it keeps a weather resistant conduit system when it is assembled with the matching cover and gasket (CV-3 or SCV-3 with GKV-3 or GKN-3). Bare, without a gasketed cover, it is not weather resistant. The body is UL listed.
4) How much clearance do I need to mount an ALL-3 conduit body?
Published dimensions for the ALL-3 are A 5-3/8, B 4-7/8, C 5-5/16, D 1-3/4, E 1-7/8, F 4-7/8, G 2-1/2 and H 1 inch. Lay those against your wall offset and strut spacing before you set the run, and leave room to back the cover screws out for future pulls.
5) Can I buy a single ALL-3 conduit body, or is there a minimum quantity?
The ALL-3 is sold by the each, but it moves in multiples of 5. Inner package is 5 and the outer carton holds 25, so a full case is five inner packs. For a one-off repair ask for the 5 pack; for a build-out, order in cases.
6) Should I use the stamped aluminum cover or the die cast cover on a 1 inch LL body?
Both fit the ALL-3. The die cast CV-3 is the heavier cover and matches the body casting, which is the usual pick for exposed exterior and industrial work. The stamped aluminum SCV-3 is the lighter option for protected or indoor runs. Either way pair it with a gasket, GKN-3 neoprene or GKV-3 composition, if the location sees weather. Cover screws on the body are retained stainless steel, so they stay put when you open it for a pull.
7) Will a die cast aluminum conduit body corrode if I mount it on steel or in a damp area?
The ALL-3 body is die cast aluminum, which is the usual choice for exterior and damp runs because it will not rust like malleable iron. Where it meets dissimilar metal or sits in a corrosive environment, isolate the joint. It is also RoHS compliant, which matters on projects with material restrictions.
8) How much does a Thomas & Betts ALL-3 conduit body weigh for overhead support calculations?
0.6 lbs each for the ALL-3 body. That is the body alone, before cover and gasket, so add for those when you are sizing hangers or strut on a long exposed run.
