Thomas & Betts ALL-2 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Thomas & Betts ALL-2 conduit body come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
The ALL-2 body is sold on its own (unit of measure is Each), so the cover and gasket are separate line items. For the cover you have two choices: the CV-2 die cast cover or the SCV-2 stamped aluminum cover. For the gasket, GKV-2 is the composition gasket and GKN-2 is the neoprene one. If you would rather buy it as one package, the body, cover and gasket kit is catalog number DALL-2-CG.
2) What kind of conduit does the ALL-2 body thread onto?
It is a threaded conduit body for rigid and IMC conduit. Threads are tapered conduit threads, so it will not accept EMT directly; if the run is EMT you need a threaded adapter or a different fitting style.
3) Is the ALL-2 a Type LL or Type LR body, and which way does the opening face?
It is a Type LL conduit body. On an LL, the back opening is on the left as you face the cover, so the pull opening sits on the left-hand side of the run. If you need the opening on the right, you want the LR version instead, and a Type LB turns the pull to the back for a wall penetration.
4) Will the ALL-2 hold enough conductors for my pull, and what is its cubic inch volume?
The wiring chamber is 7.3 cubic inches. Use that figure against NEC conductor fill and splice volume allowances for the wire size you are pulling. The body has smooth throats and a chamber sized for pulling conductors and making splices inside.
5) Is the ALL-2 conduit body aluminum or steel, and can I use it outdoors?
Die cast aluminum. Paired with a cover and gasket it keeps a weather resistant conduit system, so it is used on exterior and damp runs. One caution on material: aluminum in direct contact with concrete, masonry or soil, or with dissimilar metal fittings, is a corrosion risk, so a steel or malleable iron body is the better pick for those locations.
6) Do I have to buy the ALL-2 in a carton, or can I get just a few?
They ship in multiples of 10. The inner pack is 10 pieces and the full carton is 50, so plan quantities in tens rather than ones. Each body weighs 0.41 lbs.
7) Is the Thomas & Betts ALL-2 UL listed and RoHS compliant for a government or institutional spec?
UL is the listing carried on the ALL-2, and it is RoHS compliant, which covers the two items most commonly called out on public and institutional submittals for conduit bodies.
8) Will the cover screws fall out when I open an ALL-2 overhead?
No. The cover screws are retained stainless steel, so they stay captive in the cover when you loosen them. That matters on ladder work and overhead runs where a dropped screw means a trip down, and stainless means they will not seize from rust on an outdoor body.
