1) Does the Thomas & Betts ALL-5 conduit body come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
The ALL-5 body ships as a body only, sold each. Covers and gaskets are separate catalog numbers: CV-4 die cast cover or SCV-4 stamped aluminum cover, with either a GKV-4 composition gasket or GKN-4 neoprene gasket. If you want the body, cover and gasket together as one line, order the D Pak number DALL-5-CG instead.
2) What kind of conduit does the ALL-5 thread onto?
It is a threaded conduit body for rigid metal conduit and IMC. The threads are tapered conduit thread, so it will not take EMT directly; EMT needs a threaded adapter or a set-screw/compression fitting to transition first.
3) Is an LL conduit body the right choice, or do I need an LB or LR?
Pick by which way the branch leaves the run. An LL turns to the left as you face the removable cover, an LR turns right, and an LB turns back toward the wall (the usual choice coming out of a building into a down-run). The ALL-5 is a Type LL body, so use it where the pull opening has to face you and the conduit turns left.
4) What material is the Thomas & Betts ALL-5, and will it hold up outdoors?
Die cast aluminum body. With a cover and gasket fitted, the threaded body maintains a weather resistant conduit system, which is why the cover screws are retained stainless steel. For wet locations use the neoprene GKN-4 gasket or the composition GKV-4 under the cover. Aluminum is the wrong pick in direct contact with concrete or in corrosive chemical exposure, where PVC-coated or malleable iron is the better call.
5) Is the Thomas & Betts ALL-5 conduit body UL listed?
Yes, the ALL-5 carries a UL listing. It is also RoHS compliant, which matters on public and institutional projects that require it in the submittal.
6) How much clearance do I need to mount an ALL-5 and still get the cover off?
Published dimensions for the ALL-5 are A 7-1/4, B 6-1/2, C 7-7/8, D 2-1/2, E 2-3/4, F 6-5/16, G 3-3/8 and H 1-1/2 inches. Lay those against the T&B dimension diagram for the LL body to check your rough-in. The longest overall figure is 7-7/8 inches, so allow at least that much clear length in the run plus room to swing a screwdriver on the cover face.
7) Can I buy a single ALL-5 conduit body, or is there an order minimum?
Pricing is each, but the order multiple is 2, so quantities go up in pairs. Inner package is 2 and the outer carton holds 10, which is the figure to work from if you are stocking a truck or an MRO shelf.
8) How heavy is a Thomas & Betts ALL-5, and does it need separate support?
