1) Does the GKN-5 come with a cover, or is it just the gasket?
The GKN-5 is the neoprene gasket on its own. If the existing cover is cracked or the screws are stripped, you need to order a 2 inch Series A or B conduit body cover separately; the gasket only restores the seal between cover and body.
2) Will the GKN-5 gasket work on any brand of 2 inch conduit body, or only Thomas & Betts?
It is specified for use with Series A and B conduit bodies in the 2 inch trade size. Fit on other manufacturers' bodies isn't something we can confirm, so for a mixed-brand job the safe route is to gasket T&B Series A or B bodies with it.
3) What material is the GKN-5 conduit body gasket made of?
Neoprene, in black. Neoprene is the standard gasket material for sealing a conduit body cover against weather and dust in outdoor and damp locations. The part is also RoHS compliant, which matters on specs that call it out.
4) Is the GKN-5 sold individually or do I have to buy a box?
The GKN-5 gasket is sold each, at 0.06 lbs per piece. The standard outer package is 25, so if you are stocking a truck or a maintenance shop that is the carton quantity to think in.
5) Do I need a gasket on a conduit body cover, or is the cover enough on its own?
Indoors in a dry location a plain cover is normally acceptable. Outdoors, in damp or wet locations, or anywhere the raceway is washed down, the neoprene gasket is what keeps water out of the body and off the conductors. That is why gaskets like the 2 inch GKN-5 are stocked as a separate maintenance item: the body and cover outlast the rubber, and a hardened gasket is the usual reason a weatherproof LB or T starts taking on water.
