1) Does the Thomas & Betts AT-4 conduit body come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
The AT-4 body ships as a body only, sold each. Covers and gaskets are separate catalog numbers: CV-4 die cast cover or SCV-4 stamped aluminum cover, with either a GKV-4 composition gasket or a GKN-4 neoprene gasket. If you want the body, cover and gasket together as one line, order the D Pak number DAT-4-CG. The weather resistant rating of the system only holds when the cover and gasket are installed.
2) What conduit does the AT-4 conduit body thread onto?
It is a threaded conduit body for rigid and IMC conduit. The hubs are tapered threads, so it will not accept EMT directly, you would need an EMT to threaded rigid transition fitting. It is die cast aluminum, so pair it with aluminum or galvanized rigid in the same system and avoid direct burial in corrosive soil.
3) How many conductors can I legally pull through the AT-4?
The AT-4 gives you a 32 cubic inch wiring chamber, which is what you use for NEC box fill when you are making splices inside it. Divide 32 by the volume allowance for your conductor size to get your count. The throats are smooth for pulling, and the chamber is sized to work in as a splice point rather than just a pull point.
4) Which cover should I pick for an outdoor AT-4 install, die cast or stamped aluminum?
For outdoor or wash-down work, the CV-4 die cast cover gives you a heavier, more rigid seat against the gasket; the SCV-4 stamped aluminum cover is the lighter option for dry interior use. Either way the gasket is what makes it weather resistant, so add a GKN-4 neoprene or GKV-4 composition gasket. Neoprene is the usual choice where the cover gets opened and reseated. Cover screws are retained stainless steel, so they stay with the cover when you pull it off on a ladder.
5) Can I buy a single AT-4 conduit body, or is there a minimum?
It is priced each, but it moves in multiples of two: the inner pack is 2 pieces with an order multiple of 2, and the outer carton holds 10. Each body weighs 1.2 lbs.
