1) What trade size conduit does the Thomas & Betts BLB-8 LB conduit body take?
The BLB-8 is a 3 inch trade size Type LB conduit body, built for EMT conduit. If you're running 3 inch EMT through a wall and need to turn into the building, this is the size. For anything smaller you need a smaller body in the series, since the hubs are fixed at 3 inch.
2) Is the BLB-8 conduit body big enough for my conductor fill and splices?
Wiring chamber volume is 190 cubic inches, which is what you use when you're calculating box fill or deciding whether you have room to splice inside. The throats are smooth, so pulling large conductors through a 3 inch run doesn't chew the insulation.
3) Does the BLB-8 come with a cover, or do I order that separately?
A cover is included. The BLB-8 ships with one die cast aluminum cover, catalog number CV-6, and the cover screws are retained stainless steel so they won't drop out of the cover while you're working on a ladder.
4) Is a gasket included with the BLB-8, and which one do I need for a wet or outdoor location?
The cover ships with the body, but the gasket is a separate item. Two are listed for this size: GKN-6 in neoprene and GKV-6 composition. Neoprene is the one to specify where you want a weather seal on an exterior wall penetration; composition is the general-purpose gasket.
5) What is the difference between the Thomas & Betts BLB-8 conduit body and the Arlington 935NM AnyBODY LB-style body?
They serve the same LB routing purpose but are built for different raceway systems and sizes. The BLB-8 is a Type LB conduit body in die cast aluminum, 3 inch trade size, with a 190 cubic inch wiring chamber and a die cast CV-6 cover. The Arlington 935NM is an LB-style non-metallic body in a 2 inch threadless configuration. Choose the BLB-8 where a 3 inch metallic EMT run and a metal cover are called for, and the 935NM where a 2 inch threadless non-metallic body suits the run.
6) Is the BLB-8 conduit body metal or plastic, and is it UL listed?
Die cast aluminum body and die cast aluminum cover, and it carries a UL listing. It is also RoHS compliant, which some institutional and government specs call for.
7) Is the BLB-8 sold individually or by the box?
Sold each, one per outer package. Order quantity equals the number of bodies you get, so a ten-unit order is ten bodies, each with its die cast aluminum cover.
