1) What conduit size does the Thomas & Betts BLB-3 conduit body take, and what kind of conduit?
The BLB-3 is a 1 inch trade size Type LB conduit body made for EMT. It takes EMT connections, not threaded rigid, so if your run is rigid or IMC with threaded ends you need a threaded LB instead.
2) How many conductors can I legally pull through a BLB-3 LB body?
The BLB-3 has a wiring chamber volume of 11.8 cubic inches. Use that figure against the NEC fill and volume allowances for the wire gauge you are pulling. The chamber is sized for pulling conductors and making splices, and the throats are smooth so the pull does not chew insulation.
3) Does the BLB-3 conduit body come with a cover and gasket?
Order the cover and gasket separately. For the BLB-3 the die cast cover is CV-3, the stamped aluminum cover is SCV-3, and gaskets are GKV-3 in composition or GKN-3 in neoprene. Pick the neoprene gasket where you want a tighter seal against moisture; the body itself carries a UL listing.
4) Is the BLB-3 aluminum or steel, and will the cover screws rust outdoors?
Body is die cast aluminum and the cover screws are stainless steel and retained, so they stay in the cover and do not drop into a trench when you open it up. Aluminum also means no galvanic worry against aluminum conductors or EMT fittings of the same metal.
5) Do I have to buy LB conduit bodies in a carton quantity?
The BLB-3 is sold by the each, but the order multiple is 5, with 5 to an inner package and 25 to the outer carton. So a job order comes in steps of five. There is also a D Pak catalog number, DBLB-3-C, if you want the packaged version.
6) If I choose the BLB-3, what cover and gasket do I order with it, and does a threadless non-metallic LB need the same parts?
For the BLB-3, the matching covers are the CV-3 die cast cover or the SCV-3 stamped aluminum cover, with either a GKV-3 composition gasket or a GKN-3 neoprene gasket for a sealed closure. The Arlington 935NM is an LB-style non-metallic body in 2 inch and is a different platform, so BLB-3 covers and gaskets are not interchangeable with it.
7) Is the BLB-3 RoHS compliant for a government or institutional spec?
Yes, the BLB-3 is RoHS compliant and UL listed. Unit weight is 0.51 lbs each if you are figuring support loads or freight on a bulk order.
