Thomas & Betts BLB-7 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Thomas & Betts BLB-7 LB conduit body for EMT or for threaded rigid conduit?
The BLB-7 is built for EMT. It is a Type LB conduit body with set-screw style EMT connections, not a threaded hub body, so it will not thread onto rigid or IMC. If the run is threaded rigid, you need a threaded LB instead.
2) Does the BLB-7 come with a cover, or do I order that separately?
It ships with one die cast aluminum cover, catalog number CV-6, with retained stainless steel cover screws so the screws stay in the cover when you open it. No cover purchase is needed to get the body closed up.
3) What gasket do I need to use with the BLB-7 outdoors or in a wet location?
A gasket is a separate item. Two fit the BLB-7 cover opening: GKN-6 in neoprene and GKV-6 composition. Neoprene is the usual pick where moisture and weather are the concern; composition is the general-purpose sealing gasket. The body itself ships with the cover only, so add the gasket to the order if the location calls for one.
4) What is the difference between the Thomas & Betts BLB-7 and the Arlington 935NM LB-style conduit body?
Both are LB-style conduit bodies for a 2 inch run, but they are built differently. The BLB-7 is die cast aluminum and is made for use with EMT conduit, shipping with a die cast aluminum CV-6 cover and retained stainless steel cover screws. The Arlington 935NM is a non-metallic AnyBODY LB-style body in a 2 inch threadless configuration. Choose the BLB-7 when the job calls for a metallic body on EMT; the 935NM is the non-metallic option.
5) What is the body made of, and will it hold up on an exterior wall?
Die cast aluminum, body and cover both. Aluminum is standard for exterior EMT work and the retained stainless cover screws will not rust out when the cover is opened for service years later. Paired with the GKN-6 neoprene gasket it seals at the cover joint. Aluminum is not the choice where the environment is corrosive to it, such as direct contact with concrete, masonry chemicals, or coastal salt spray without a coating.
6) Is the BLB-7 UL listed and RoHS compliant for a spec job?
Both. The BLB-7 carries UL and is RoHS compliant, which covers the two boxes most institutional and government specs ask about on a conduit body.
7) Should I use an LB conduit body or a pull box where conduit goes through a wall?
An LB body is the right part when the run comes down a wall and turns through it, typically to enter a building below the conduit. It gives you a back outlet plus a removable cover for the pull, which a straight coupling or elbow does not. Use a pull box instead when several raceways converge or when you need more room than the 190 cubic inch chamber of the BLB-7, or an LR or LL body when the turn is to the left or right rather than to the back.
8) Will a gasketed cover work on both the BLB-7 and the Arlington 935NM?
The Thomas & Betts BLB-7 has defined gasket part numbers for its cover: GKV-6 in composition and GKN-6 in neoprene, used with the CV-6 die cast aluminum cover it ships with. The Arlington 935NM is a non-metallic AnyBODY LB-style body in 2 inch threadless and uses its own cover arrangement, so the GKV-6 and GKN-6 gaskets are matched to the BLB-7 rather than interchangeable across the two.
9) If I am pulling large conductors through a 2 inch LB, is the BLB-7 or the Arlington 935NM the better fit?
The Thomas & Betts BLB-7 gives a 190 cubic inch wiring chamber with smooth throats for easy wire pulling, and its cover opening measures 8 inches by 4 1/2 inches, so it offers a documented volume figure to check your conductor fill against. The Arlington 935NM is the non-metallic AnyBODY LB-style body in 2 inch threadless. If the deciding factor is a stated chamber volume for a large pull, the BLB-7 is the one with that number to work from.
10) Is the BLB-7 sold individually or in a carton?
Sold each, one per outer package. Ordering a quantity of ten gets ten bodies, each with its own CV-6 cover.
11) Will the conductors chafe pulling through a BLB-7?
The throats are smooth-formed, which is what keeps insulation from being scraped as conductors are pulled around the turn. That matters most on larger copper where the pull tension is high and the bend is tight against the body wall.
