OATEY 707-1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey Dearborn 707-1 P-trap fit a 1-1/4 inch lavatory drain?
Yes. The Dearborn 707-1 is a 1-1/4 inch trap, inlet and outlet both, with slip joint connections at each end. That is the standard bathroom lavatory drain size, so it mates with a 1-1/4 inch tailpiece off the sink and a 1-1/4 inch wall tube into the drain. Kitchen sinks are usually 1-1/2 inch and need a different trap.
2) Does the 707-1 trap work with a floor drain or only a wall drain?
Wall drain only. The 707-1 is built for a wall-connected sink drain system and ships with a 7-1/2 inch wall tube (the horizontal leg that runs back into the wall). For a floor or P-trap-down rough-in you need a trap with a vertical outlet instead.
3) Do I need to order a separate escutcheon or trap cover plate with the Dearborn 707-1?
No, a standard flange is included, so the wall penetration gets covered without buying a separate escutcheon. It is the standard style, not a deep or shallow specialty flange.
4) What does the cleanout on this P-trap actually do for maintenance?
The 707-1 has a cleanout plug at the bottom of the trap bend, so a maintenance tech can drop the plug and clear hair or debris out of the seal without breaking the slip joints and pulling the whole trap. For property managers running a lot of lavatories, that is the difference between a five minute clear and a re-set.
5) Can I cut the wall tube on the 707-1 to fit my rough-in?
The wall tube comes at 7-1/2 inches and connects with a slip joint, so it can be cut back and reseated for a shorter run to the wall stub. If your rough-in is farther out than 7-1/2 inches you will need an extension tube rather than stretching this one.
6) Will the washers on this trap seal properly on brass tubing?
Yes, the 707-1 uses blue rubber washers at the slip joints, which Dearborn specifies for sealing in brass applications. No pipe dope or tape is needed on a slip joint, just the washer seated square and the nut snug.
7) How much does the Oatey 707-1 trap weigh?
About 1.15 lbs per trap. Useful if you are ordering a pallet of them for a multi-restroom retrofit and budgeting freight, or stocking a service van.
