1) Do I need a ceiling radiation damper with a Delta Breez Integrity bath fan in a fire rated ceiling?
If the fan penetrates a fire rated floor/ceiling or roof/ceiling assembly, yes. The ITG-CRD is the damper that closes that opening off and limits radiant heat transfer through the ceiling membrane, and it is rated for assemblies up to 3 hours. It is UL and cUL listed and exceeds UL 555C for 3-hour fire rated assemblies, with UL 555C listing R27832. Without it, the fan opening breaks the rated membrane.
2) Is the ITG-CRD approved for use in wood frame construction assemblies?
It is UL listed as a fan/damper assembly for wood frame construction designs L521, L546, L558, L562, L574, L576, L581, L583, L585, P522, P533, P538 and P545. If the assembly on the drawings is one of those UL designs, the fan and damper together are covered as a listed assembly. That is the detail an inspector will ask for.
3) How much space do I need above the ceiling to install the ITG-CRD damper?
Plan the joist bay and plenum space around 8 x 8-1/2 x 5-5/8 inches, which is the damper's stated size. The damper sits between the fan housing and the ceiling opening, so that height has to clear above the finished ceiling in addition to the fan body itself. Worth checking on shallow bays before the ceiling closes up.
4) Is the installation different for combustible versus non-combustible ceiling construction?
Yes, and the ITG-CRD ships with separate procedures for each. Delta publishes one installation manual for combustible construction (wood framing) and a second for non-combustible construction, and the mounting detail differs between them. Match the manual to the assembly you are cutting into, because following the wrong one can void the listed assembly.
5) Is the ITG-CRD a fire damper for the duct, or something different?
It is a ceiling radiation damper, not an in-duct fire damper. Its job is the ceiling membrane: it limits radiant heat transfer through the air inlet/outlet opening cut into a rated floor/ceiling or roof/ceiling assembly. A duct-mounted fire damper protects a penetration through a rated wall or shaft, which is a different application entirely. If what you are protecting is the ceiling plane where a bath fan drops in, the ceiling radiation damper is the correct type.
6) Do I order one ITG-CRD per bathroom fan, or does one cover a run of fans?
One per fan. The damper protects the single ceiling opening the fan penetrates, and it is listed as a fan/damper assembly with a specific Delta Integrity fan, so a building with twelve rated bathroom ceilings needs twelve dampers.
