Deltana CSA13 Colonial Casement Stay Adjuster, 13"

A casement stay holds a hinged casement sash open at a set position instead of letting it swing in the wind. The Deltana CSA13 is the 13 inch version, so it governs how far the sash can travel: the arm runs along the sill or frame and the sash is captured at the point you set. If you want a wider opening, you need a longer stay; a shorter one restricts the swing further.

Length is the deciding factor, and 13 inches is the mid-size in the Colonial casement stay range. Measure the sill run from the hinge side to where the stay pin will land at your maximum desired opening; that travel has to fall within the 13 inch arm. A big sash you want opening wide needs a longer stay, and forcing a 13 inch arm on it just limits how far the window goes.

Solid brass, both the material and the substrate. That matters on a window more than on a door: the stay sits at the sash opening and gets rained on, and brass won't rust out the way a plated steel stay does. The finish is applied over brass, so a scratch shows brass underneath rather than bare steel.

If you're matching a building's existing casement hardware, PVD Polished Brass and standard Polished Brass are the two to be careful with, they look alike in a photo but PVD is the coated version that holds its color outdoors.
