1) Will the Design Hardware 1000R 33-inch rim device fit a 3'-0" door, and can it be cut down for a 2'-8" door?
The 33 inch length of the 1000R is sized for 3'-0" wide doors, and it can be cut down to fit a door as narrow as 2'-8". For doors from 3'-8" to 4'-0" wide, order the 42 inch device instead (that one cuts down to 3'-4").
2) What is the minimum stile width for the 1000R rim exit device?
You need at least a 4-1/2 inch stile. The center case measures 8" high x 2-7/8" wide x 2-13/16" thick, so anything narrower than 4-1/2 inches won't take it. On a narrow stile aluminum storefront door, go with a narrow stile device such as the Adams Rite 8700 Series or the TownSteel ED3700 instead.
3) Will the 1000R latch into my existing rim strike?
The 1000R uses a deadlocking latchbolt with 5/8 inch projection and ships with a roller strike that also has 5/8 inch projection plus a 1/8 inch shim. If your existing strike was set for a 5/8 inch rim latch, the geometry matches; if the frame gap is off, use the supplied shim or one of the shim kits. ASA and latch fillers are included in the box for covering old mortise lock prep.
4) I need a rim exit device on a fire rated opening. What should I order instead of the 1000R 33 inch hex key dogging device?
The 1000R with hex key dogging is a non fire rated panic device, since dogging is not permitted on rated devices.
