1) How does dogging work on the Design Hardware 1000R, and can I convert it to key dogging later?
Standard dogging on the 1000R panic device is 5/32 inch hex key. Dog the pushbar down and the door stays push-pull during business hours. If you want a keyed cylinder instead of a hex key, Design Hardware offers cylinder dogging kits that can be added to new or existing 1000R devices, so you are not locked into the hex key at time of order.
2) Will the 1000R latch into the strike that's already on my frame?
Plan on using the roller strike supplied with the device. The 1000R uses a deadlocking latchbolt with 5/8 inch projection, and the matched roller strike has the same 5/8 inch projection plus a 1/8 inch shim to take up gap variation at the frame. Swapping in an old strike from a different manufacturer risks a mismatch in throw and latch engagement.
3) Does the Design Hardware 1000R meet ADA and Grade 1 requirements for a commercial building?
The 1000R is a Grade 1 commercial exit device, UL Listed for panic exit hardware, and meets ADA requirements under ANSI A117.1 when used with lever trim.
