It installs into a standard 2-1/8 inch 161 door prep, which is the same cutout a cylindrical lockset uses. If the door was previously bored for a knob or lever lock, the hole is already there. 2) Do I have to specify handing for the KIL exit device lever trim?
No handing to call out. The KIL trim is non-handed and completely reversible, so one part covers left and right hand doors. That makes it easy to stock a couple on the shelf for a building with openings swinging both ways.
3) How does storeroom function work on an exit device trim, and is it what I want for a mechanical room?
Storeroom means the outside lever is always fixed. The key retracts the latch to get in, and the lever never unlocks the door; push the bar from inside and you always get out. 5) Will this exit trim fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
No. The KIL needs a 2-1/8 inch 161 bore and carries a 3-3/8 inch rose, which a narrow stile aluminum door will not take. For narrow stile openings look at BEST Precision narrow stile trim, such as the 2901 lever trim or the 2001 pull trim, both built for 2000 Series narrow stile devices.
6) Can I use the Design Hardware KIL trim on a Von Duprin or Sargent exit device?
No. The Design Hardware KIL is a lever trim for Design Hardware 1000R and 2000R devices. Von Duprin devices take Von Duprin trim: the 210K-BE is a Grade 1 knob with blank escutcheon for 22 series, and the E360L-BE-03 is a Grade 1 electric passage trim with the 03 lever for 33 and 35A series. Sargent devices take Sargent trim: the 704ET is a Grade 1 night latch lever trim for 700 series, and the 744 covers 8700 and 8900 series surface vertical rod and mortise devices. Match the trim to the device family it is built for.
