1) Will a Don-Jo 514-CW wrap around plate cover a torn-up mortise lock prep on a commercial door?
That is the job the 514-CW does. It is a wrap around plate, 5-1/8 by 12 inches in 22-gauge (.032) steel, that bends around the lock edge and covers the door face around a mortise prep. The 1-5/8 by 7-5/16 inch rectangular cut out passes the mortise lock trim through, so stripped screw holes, an oversized old prep, or a chewed face inside that 5-1/8 by 12 inch footprint end up covered and backed by steel. It is cut for a 2-3/4 inch backset on a 1-3/4 inch door. Damage that falls outside the plate footprint will still show.
2) My mortise lock is prepped at a 2-3/4 inch backset. Will the 514-CW cut out line up with it?
It will. The 514-CW is cut for a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the usual backset on commercial mortise locks, and the 1-5/8 by 7-5/16 inch opening is positioned off the door edge for that dimension. Measure from the door edge to the center of the lock trim before you order: if your prep is at some other backset, the cut out will not sit over the trim and the plate cannot be shifted to make up the difference.
3) Will the Don-Jo 514-CW wrap around fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The 514-CW is made for 1-3/4 inch doors only. A wrap around is formed to a specific door thickness so the return grips the far face; on a 1-3/8 inch door the wrap would stand proud of the opposite face and the plate would not pull flat against the door. 1-3/4 inch is the standard commercial door thickness and 1-3/8 inch is the common older interior thickness, so for a 1-3/8 inch door you need a wrap around formed for that thickness instead.
4) I have a knob or lever lock with a round bore, not a mortise lock. Can I use the 514-CW?
No, this one will not work for a bored lock. The 514-CW has a single 1-5/8 by 7-5/16 inch rectangular opening cut for mortise lock trim. A cylindrical knob or lever passes through a round cross bore, and a rectangle that size leaves the rose with no flat steel to bear against and exposes the bore. For a knob or lever you want a wrap around with a round cut out sized to your bore diameter and backset, not this mortise version.
5) Does the 514-CW work with mortise lock trim that has a separate knob rose and cylinder ring, or only a full escutcheon?
Full escutcheon trim.
