1) What size is the DORMA 8575 RTS cover plate, and will it cover my existing header cutout?
The plate measures 15-23/32 inches by 3-23/32 inches. Measure the closer pocket in your header before ordering: if the existing cutout is longer or taller than those numbers, the plate won't conceal it. On a frame originally prepped for an RTS03, RTS04, RTS27 or RTS28, the pocket is sized for this plate.
2) Is there a metal cover option for the DORMA 8575, or is it plastic?
Both. The 8575 ships by default with the full plastic cover (FC), and a full metal cover (FMC) can be specified instead. For a high traffic entrance, a school corridor or anywhere the header takes abuse, the FMC is the one to order; for a low traffic interior opening the standard FC is fine. Pick the cover option at the same time as the finish, since it's part of how the part is ordered.
3) What finishes does the DORMA 8575 RTS frame cover plate come in?
Four finishes: 605 bright chrome, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 689 anodized aluminum. For matching a header on an existing storefront or a run of doors in a building, 689 aluminum is the one that blends with clear anodized aluminum frames, and 626 satin chrome is the usual match to satin lever trim and push bars elsewhere on the opening.
4) I'm replacing a damaged cover on a DORMA RTS overhead concealed closer. Do I need to pull the closer out?
No. The 8575 is a frame cover plate, a separate replacement part from the closer body, so on an RTS03, RTS04, RTS27 or RTS28 you're changing the plate on the header and leaving the closer in place. That's the common repair when a plate gets dented, painted over, or damaged by a spindle strike, and it costs you a plate rather than a closer.
5) Is the DORMA 8575 cover plate rated for commercial use?
It's a commercial door hardware part, matched to the DORMA RTS series of overhead concealed closers used on aluminum storefront and interior commercial openings.
