DORMA 9000 Series Exit Device
Heavy Duty Exit Device

The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

For paired doors where a full-width opening is only occasionally required, removable mullions are used. Doors are fitted with rim exit devices and normally function as single doors. Steel and aluminum mullions are available in 8' or 10' lengths.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba 9400A-630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DORMA 9400 exit device work on a pair of doors without a mullion?
Yes. The 9400 is a surface vertical rod device, so it latches at the head and at the threshold rather than into a strike on the edge of the door. That means it secures each leaf of a pair independently and no center mullion is needed. If you would rather run rim devices on a pair, the 9000 Series does offer removable mullions in steel or aluminum, 8 foot or 10 foot lengths, for openings where the full width is only occasionally required.
2) What door thickness does the DORMA 9400 vertical rod device fit?
Standard 9400 devices and trim cover 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors, which takes in both normal commercial doors and thicker institutional or storefront leaves. Above 2-1/4 inches it is a special order through DORMA Technical Service, not something you can shim into place.
3) Can I hold the DORMA 9400 unlatched during business hours?
Yes, with a hex key. The 9400 comes with hex key dogging as standard, so you depress the pushpad and set it with the wrench to hold the latches retracted for daytime traffic. If you want that done electrically instead, the 9000 Series offers motorized latch retraction (MLR), which draws the touchbar in with a quiet motor and can electrically hold the bar dogged during non-secure hours.
4) Does the DORMA 9400 come with outside trim or a lever?
It does not. This one is configured exit only, meaning pushpad on the inside and no outside operating trim. Anyone outside gets a blank door. If you need entry from the outside, you have to add trim separately, and the 9000 Series offers free wheeling lever trim in a range of architectural finishes.
5) Will the 48 inch DORMA 9400 fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
No. The 9400 pushpad is a wide stile chassis, built for the wider rails you get on hollow metal, wood, and wide stile aluminum doors. On a narrow stile storefront leaf you need the narrow stile version of the 9000 Series chassis instead, which DORMA builds for that application.
6) Does the DORMA 9400 need to be ordered left or right handed?
No handing to specify. The 9400 is non-handed, so one device covers either swing. That is useful if you are stocking spares for a building with doors swinging both ways, since a single part number covers the lot.
7) What strike comes with the DORMA 9400 vertical rod device?
The 463 strike ships as standard with the 9400. That is the top strike for the vertical rod latch. Worth confirming your frame head has the prep or the clearance for it before the crew shows up, since a vertical rod device needs both a head strike and a floor or threshold strike location to latch properly.
8) What fasteners are included with the DORMA 9400 exit device?
Wood and machine screws are standard in the box, which covers wood doors and hollow metal. Sex nuts and bolts are supplied as standard only on fire rated and hurricane configurations, so if your spec calls for through-bolting on this non-rated device, plan to source SNB separately.
9) Is the DORMA 9400 tough enough for a school corridor or gym door?
That is the application it was built for. It is a Grade 1, heavy duty device on a cast chassis, aimed at high impact openings in schools, universities, and other institutional and commercial buildings. Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA durability tier for exit devices, which is what most institutional specs call out. The touchbar also has a reduced projection profile to cut down on catch hazards in busy corridors, and the chassis carries an antimicrobial protected coating.
10) Can the DORMA 9400 be set up for card reader access with the latch pulled back?
Yes, by specifying motorized latch retraction. MLR uses a quiet motor to draw the touch bar in and retract the latches, and it can be triggered by a range of credentials, so a card reader or fob release works with it. It also handles scheduled unlocking by holding the bar retracted during non-secure hours. MLR is an option to call out at order time, not something added to a mechanical device later.
