DORMA 9000 Series Exit Device
Heavy Duty Exit Device

The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

For paired doors where a full-width opening is only occasionally required, removable mullions are used. Doors are fitted with rim exit devices and normally function as single doors. Steel and aluminum mullions are available in 8' or 10' lengths.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba 9400C-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DORMA 9400 exit device work on a pair of doors without a mullion?
Yes. The 9400 is a surface vertical rod device, so it latches at the head and at the threshold rather than into a strike on the edge of the door. That lets it secure a pair of doors with no center mullion. If you want rim devices on a pair instead, DORMA offers removable mullions in steel or aluminum in 8 foot or 10 foot lengths, which keeps the doors functioning as singles and lets you pull the mullion when you need the full-width opening.
2) What door thickness does the DORMA 9400 fit?
1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, which covers standard commercial hollow metal and wood doors as well as thicker custom leaves. Anything over 2-1/4 inches needs DORMA Technical Service involved, so it is not a drop-in for oversized thick doors.
3) Is the DORMA 9400 fire rated?
No. The 9400 as configured here is not fire rated, so it cannot go on a labeled fire door assembly. It does comply with NFPA life safety code for egress. If your opening carries a fire label, you need a fire rated exit device with no dogging, since hex key dogging is not permitted on fire doors.
4) Will the 9400 wide stile pushpad fit a narrow aluminum storefront door?
No. This is the wide stile version, built for the broader stiles on hollow metal and wood doors. On an aluminum storefront with narrow stiles you want the narrow stile chassis, which the 9000 Series also offers.
5) How do you hold the 9400 unlatched during business hours?
Mechanically, with hex key dogging: insert the hex key in the touchbar to hold the pad depressed and the latches retracted so the door pushes free. If you want that to happen electrically on a schedule or from a card reader, the 9000 Series is available with motorized latch retraction (MLR), which uses a quiet motor to draw the touchbar in and can electrically hold the bar retracted during non-secure hours.
6) Does the 9400 need to be ordered left or right hand?
No handing to specify. The 9400 is non-handed, so one device covers either swing. That makes it easier to stock as a spare across a building where door swings vary.
7) What strike comes with the DORMA 9400 vertical rod device?
The 463 strike is standard. If you are replacing an existing vertical rod device, plan on installing the supplied top strike and bottom prep rather than reusing the old strike, since strike geometry varies by manufacturer.
8) What mounting screws ship with the DORMA 9000 Series exit device?
Wood and machine screws are standard, so it mounts to either a wood door or hollow metal out of the box. Sex nuts and bolts (SNB) come standard only on fire rated and hurricane versions; on a non-rated 9400 you would specify SNB separately if your job or door manufacturer requires through-bolting.
9) Is the 9400 heavy duty enough for a school corridor or gym door?
Yes. It is a Grade 1 heavy duty device with a cast chassis, aimed at high impact openings in schools, universities and other institutional and commercial buildings. The touchbar has a reduced projection to cut down on catch hazards in busy traffic, and the chassis carries an antimicrobial coating.
10) Does the 5 lb operating force CBC option apply to the 9400?
No. The BF option for a maximum 5 lb operating force is offered on the 9300, 9500 and 9700 devices, not the 9400. If your project is enforcing California Building Code operating force, look at one of those models instead.
11) What finishes can I get on the DORMA 9400 to match the rest of my doors?
Fifteen finishes on the 30 inch device: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 anodized aluminum, 691 light bronze, 693 black, 695 dark bronze, and 696 satin brass. The 68x and 69x numbers are powder coated; the rest are architectural finishes.
