The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9400C-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DORMA F9400 surface vertical rod exit device work on a pair of doors with no center mullion?
Yes. The F9400 is a surface vertical rod device, so it latches at the head and at the threshold rather than into a strike on the jamb. That is what lets it secure a pair of doors with no center mullion and give you the full clear opening. If you would rather run rim devices on the pair, DORMA offers removable steel and aluminum mullions in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths, and the doors then operate as singles day to day.
2) Is the DORMA F9400 exit device fire rated and Grade 1?
Both. The F9400 carries a fire rating and is a Grade 1 heavy duty device, which is what most institutional and commercial specs call for on egress doors in schools and universities. Note that on the fire rated version DORMA supplies sex nuts and bolts (SNB) as standard fasteners rather than relying on wood or machine screws alone.
3) What door thickness does the DORMA 9400 exit device fit?
Standard 9400 devices and trim cover 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors, so a normal 1-3/4 inch commercial door is right in range. Anything thicker than 2-1/4 inches is outside the standard build and needs DORMA Technical Service involved before you order.
4) Do I need to specify left or right hand when ordering the DORMA F9400?
No handing to specify. The F9400 is non-handed, so one device covers left and right hand openings. That makes it simpler to stock across a building where the doors swing both ways.
5) Does the F9400 come with outside trim, or is it exit only?
Exit only. The F9400 ships with the pushpad and vertical rod hardware for egress, with no outside lever or pull included. If you need to get back in through that door, you have to order trim separately. DORMA offers free wheeling lever trim across the 9000 Series in a range of architectural finishes.
6) Will the DORMA F9400 fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
No. The F9400 is the wide stile version, built for a wide stile door such as a hollow metal or wood door. For an aluminum storefront with a narrow stile, you want the narrow stile chassis in the DORMA 9000 Series instead. The cast chassis is offered both ways, so the series covers the opening either way, but the wide stile pushpad will not land correctly on a narrow stile.
7) Can the DORMA 9400 exit device be dogged down so the door stays push-open during business hours?
Yes, with a hex key. The 9400 uses hex key dogging, so a maintenance tech holds the pushpad retracted mechanically. Keep in mind that mechanical dogging is not permitted on a fire rated opening, so if you need the latch held back during the day on a fire door, the motorized latch retraction (MLR) option is the route, since it can electrically hold the push bar retracted during non-secure hours.
8) What strike comes with the DORMA F9400 vertical rod device?
The 463 strike is standard on the F9400. Confirm the top strike prep on your frame head matches it before install, since a surface vertical rod latches into the frame head rather than the jamb.
9) What finishes does the DORMA F9400 30 inch exit device come in?
Fifteen finishes, spanning architectural and powder coated: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 anodized aluminum, 691 light bronze, 693 black, 695 dark bronze and 696 satin brass. If you are matching existing openings in a building, 630 and 689 are the two that most commonly show up on commercial egress doors.
10) Can the DORMA 9400 be tied into a card reader or access control system?
Yes, through the motorized latch retraction option. MLR draws the touch bar in with a quiet motor to retract the latch, and it can be triggered by a range of credentials, so it works with a card reader or other access control input. It also gives you electric dogging for scheduled unlocked hours.
11) Is the DORMA 9400 exit device suitable for a school or high traffic institutional door?
That is exactly what it is built for. Heavy duty rating, Grade 1, and a cast chassis aimed at high impact applications like schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings. The touchbar has reduced projection to cut down on catch hazards in a corridor, and the device carries an antimicrobial protected coating, which matters on a door thousands of hands touch daily.
12) Does the DORMA F9400 meet egress and accessibility requirements for a commercial building?
The 9000 Series complies with NFPA life safety code and ADA. One thing to watch: the CBC-compliant BF option for a maximum 5 lb operating force is offered on the 9300, 9500 and 9700 models, not the 9400. If a 5 lb maximum operating force is written into your spec, look at one of those models instead.
13) What fasteners ship with the DORMA F9400, and do I need anything extra for a wood door?
Wood and machine screws are standard, so a wood door or a hollow metal door is covered out of the box. Because this is the fire rated build, sex nuts and bolts come standard as well, which is the through-bolt method fire rated openings require.
