  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available

Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9800BB-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use the DORMA F9800 on a fire rated door in a stairwell or corridor?
Yes, the F9800 is the fire rated build of the DORMA 9000 Series surface vertical rod device, Grade 1, heavy duty. Fire rated devices ship less dogging (LD) as standard, which is required behavior on a fire door since the latch cannot be held retracted mechanically. Fire rated units also come with sex nuts and bolts (SNB) as standard fasteners rather than plain wood and machine screws.
2) Do I need to order the DORMA F9800 exit device left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The F9800 is non-handed, so one device covers either swing direction. That is useful when you are stocking spares for a building with openings swinging both ways.
3) Can a surface vertical rod device like the F9800 secure a pair of doors without a mullion?
That is exactly what it is for. A surface vertical rod device latches at the head and at the threshold on each leaf, so a pair works without a center mullion and you get the full clear opening. If you would rather run rim devices on the pair, DORMA offers removable steel and aluminum mullions in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths, with the doors then functioning as single doors day to day and the mullion pulled when a full-width opening is needed.
4) Does the DORMA 9800 exit device come with a strike, or do I order that separately?
The 463 strike is standard with the device. It is exit only, though, so there is no outside trim in the box. If the opening needs outside lever or pull access you order trim separately, and DORMA offers free wheeling lever trim in a range of architectural finishes.
5) Can I dog the push bar down on the DORMA 9800 to keep the door push-open during business hours?
Mechanical dogging on the 9800 is hex key dogging, and cylinder dogging (CD) is available if you want it keyed instead. But on the fire rated F9800 dogging is not permitted, so the device is supplied less dogging. If you need the latch held back during open hours on a fire rated opening, the electrical route is the motorized latch retraction (MLR) option, which can hold the push bar retracted during non-secure hours and releases on alarm.
6) What is the LB (less bottom rod) option on the DORMA 9800 and when should I use it?
LB deletes the bottom rod and latch, leaving only the top latching point. Installers spec it where the floor is uneven, where carpet or a sloped threshold fouls the bottom strike, or where the bottom rod has been a maintenance problem. It is one of three order options on the 9800, alongside LD (less dogging) and CD (cylinder dogging, cylinder included).
7) Can the DORMA 9800 exit device be tied into a card reader or access control system?
Yes, through the motorized latch retraction option. MLR pulls the touch bar in to retract the latch and can be triggered by a range of credentials, so it drops into a card or fob access system. The motor is a quiet type, which matters on classroom and dorm corridors where a clacking solenoid gets complaints.
8) Will the DORMA F9800 work on a 7 foot tall door, and what door width does it suit?
The F9800 as configured covers a 7 foot door height with a 36 inch device, which is the standard commercial 3070 opening. Rod length is what sets the door height, so a taller leaf needs a different rod length rather than this configuration.
9) Is the DORMA 9800 tough enough for a school or gym entrance?
It is built for that. Grade 1, heavy duty, with a cast chassis, and DORMA positions the 9000 Series for high impact applications like schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings. The touch bar has a reduced projection to cut down on catch hazards in heavy traffic, and the device carries an antimicrobial protected coating, which facilities people in healthcare and education tend to ask about.
10) What finishes can I get the DORMA 9800 exit device in to match the rest of my building?
Fifteen finishes across the 36 inch, 7 foot configuration: 605 bright brass, 606 and 696 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 anodized aluminum, 691 light bronze, 693 black, and 695 dark bronze. That covers both architectural and powder coated options, so matching existing hardware across a campus is usually straightforward.
11) What fasteners ship with the DORMA F9800 fire rated exit device?
Wood and machine screws are the standard fastener pack on the 9000 Series, and fire rated units such as the F9800 add sex nuts and bolts (SNB) as standard. SNB through-bolting is what holds up under abuse and is what you want on a fire rated leaf.
