  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba 9600BB 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the DORMA 9600BB fire rated? Can I put it on a fire door?
No. The 9600BB is a non-fire-rated device, so it cannot go on a labeled fire door assembly. It is a narrow stile concealed vertical rod device for non-rated openings. If the opening is a rated one, look instead at a fire-rated concealed vertical rod device such as the Adams Rite 3600 Series or the Adams Rite 3900 Series, both Grade 1 and fire rated, though both are wide stile rather than narrow.
2) Do I have to order the DORMA 9600BB handed, left or right?
Handing is not a factor here. The 9600BB ships non-handed, so one device covers either swing and you can stock a single part number across a building instead of splitting inventory between lefts and rights.
3) Does the DORMA 9600BB come with lever trim, or is it exit only?
Exit only. The 9600BB pushes out from the inside and has no outside operating trim, so there is no lever or pull to get back in through that leaf. If the opening needs outside access, you need a device configured to accept trim. The Corbin Russwin ED4800 is a Grade 1 narrow stile concealed vertical rod device listed as exit only or accepting trim, which covers that case.
4) How do I hold the DORMA 9600BB latch retracted during business hours?
Two ways, and you pick one at order time. Standard dogging on the 9600BB is hex key: a tech inserts the key and holds the pushpad down mechanically. Ordering it with motorized latch retraction instead lets the device be electrically held or dogged in the retracted position during non-secure hours and released on a schedule or a credential. Hex key dogging is a person at the door; MLR is the access control system doing it.
5) What is the difference between a concealed vertical rod exit device and a rim device with a mullion on a pair of doors?
A concealed vertical rod device like the DORMA 9600BB latches into the head and the threshold, with the rods hidden inside the door, so a pair of doors latches leaf to leaf with nothing standing in the opening. That keeps the full clear width available and keeps the hardware out of sight. The alternative is rim devices on both leaves with a removable mullion between them: the doors function as single doors day to day and the mullion pulls out when a full-width opening is occasionally needed. Removable mullions come in steel or aluminum, 8 foot or 10 foot. Choose the concealed rods when the opening is always clear; choose rim plus removable mullion when the clear width is only needed now and then and you want the simpler rim hardware the rest of the time.
6) Will the DORMA 9600BB fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
Yes, that is what it is built for. The 9600BB has a narrow stile chassis, which is the version that fits the slim vertical rails on aluminum entrance doors. The wide stile version of the same family will not fit those rails. If you are working the other direction, on a hollow metal or wood door with a wide stile, other narrow stile options in the same class include the Von Duprin 3347A and the Falcon 24-C Series, both Grade 1 narrow stile concealed vertical rod devices.
7) Do I need to order a cylinder separately for the DORMA 9600BB?
Depends which way you configure it. The 9600BB is offered either with cylinder dogging prepped but supplied less cylinder, in which case you add a matching cylinder keyed into your system, or with no cylinder provision at all. Neither option ships a cylinder in the box. If you are keying a building into one system, order the less cylinder (cylinder dogging) version and supply the cylinder from your existing keyway.
8) Is the DORMA 9600BB heavy enough for a school or a high traffic entrance?
It is a Grade 1, heavy duty device on a cast chassis, which is the top ANSI/BHMA durability tier and the one specified for schools, universities and similar institutional traffic. The touchbar is a reduced projection design, so there is less to catch a backpack or a cart on in a busy corridor. The coating is antimicrobial, which matters in healthcare and school touch points.
9) Can the DORMA 9600BB be tied into a card reader or access control system?
Yes, with the motorized latch retraction option. MLR pulls the touchbar in and retracts the latches on a motor, and it can be triggered by a range of credentials, so a reader, a keypad or a scheduled unlock all drive it. The motor is a quiet one, which matters on a library or classroom corridor door that cycles all day. Order MLR with the device; it is a build option, not a field add.
10) What finish does the DORMA 9600BB exit device come in?
Satin stainless, finish 630, across every configuration of the 9600BB. That is the standard architectural finish on commercial storefront and institutional openings, so it will sit alongside 630 closers, pulls and push plates already on the building without a mismatch.
