DORMA 9000 Series Exit Device
Heavy Duty Exit Device

The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

For paired doors where a full-width opening is only occasionally required, removable mullions are used. Doors are fitted with rim exit devices and normally function as single doors. Steel and aluminum mullions are available in 8' or 10' lengths.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9400B-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DORMA F9400 exit device work on a fire rated door pair?
Yes. The F9400 is a fire rated surface vertical rod device, and that is exactly the application vertical rods are for: the rods latch at the head and at the threshold, so a pair of doors is secured without a center mullion. Fire rated devices ship less dogging (LD) as standard, so the pushbar cannot be held retracted, which is a code requirement on a fire opening. Sex nuts and bolts (SNB) come standard on the fire rated version for through-bolting.
2) What door thickness does the DORMA 9400 exit device fit?
1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors. That covers standard commercial 1-3/4 inch doors plus thicker mineral core and some storefront applications. Above 2-1/4 inches, it is not a standard device and DORMA Technical Service has to be consulted.
3) Do I need to specify handing when I order a DORMA F9400?
No. The 9400 surface vertical rod device is non-handed, so the same unit works on a left or right hand door. You do need to specify device size, finish, and one of the option suffixes.
4) Can I get an outside lever or pull with the DORMA F9400 vertical rod device?
Not as configured here. The F9400 is exit only, meaning pushpad inside and no outside trim, so there is no key or lever entry from the pull side. If you need outside access, you need a trimmed version of the 9000 Series device rather than the exit only build.
5) What is the difference between the LD, CD, and LB options on the DORMA 9400?
They are the three order choices on the device. LD is less dogging, which is standard on the fire rated unit. CD is cylinder dogging and includes the cylinder, letting you hold the pushbar retracted for free-swing hours on a non-fire opening. LB is less bottom rod, which deletes the bottom rod and strike so you avoid the floor latching point where dirt, carpet, or snow would foul it. One of the three has to be selected on every order.
6) Does the DORMA F9400 fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
No. The F9400 is the wide stile chassis, sized for hollow metal and wood doors. For a narrow stile aluminum storefront leaf you need the narrow stile version of the 9000 Series, which DORMA builds on the same platform.
7) Should I use a surface vertical rod device or a rim device with a removable mullion on my pair of doors?
Depends on how the opening gets used. Surface vertical rods like the F9400 latch top and bottom and leave the full opening clear whenever both leaves swing, which suits doors that regularly need full width. If the pair normally functions as two single doors and only occasionally needs the full opening, rim devices with a removable mullion are the usual approach; DORMA offers steel and aluminum mullions in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths.
8) Is the DORMA 9400 heavy enough for a school or high traffic institutional door?
Yes. It is an ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, heavy duty device built on a cast chassis, which is the grade specified for high abuse openings like schools, universities, and other institutional buildings. Grade 1 is the top tier for commercial exit hardware. It also carries an antimicrobial protected coating on the touchbar, which matters in healthcare and education.
9) Does the DORMA 9400 come with a strike, and which one?
The 463 strike is standard with the device. Fasteners are wood and machine screws as standard, with sex nuts and bolts included on the fire rated build for through-bolting the chassis.
10) Can the DORMA 9400 be tied into an access control system?
Yes, through motorized latch retraction (MLR), available on the 9000 Series. The motor draws the touchbar in to retract the latch, and it can be triggered by a range of credentials. It will also electrically hold the pushbar retracted during non-secure hours, which gives you push-pull operation without mechanical dogging. Note the standard mechanical dogging on the 9400 is hex key dogging, and the fire rated device ships less dogging.
11) Is there a low operating force option on the DORMA 9000 Series for accessibility compliance?
There is a BF option for a maximum 5 lb operating force to meet CBC, but DORMA lists it on the 9300, 9500, and 9700 devices, not the 9400. The 9000 Series overall complies with NFPA life safety code.
12) Why does the DORMA 9400 touchbar stick out less than older exit devices?
The 9000 Series uses a reduced projection touchbar assembly. In a corridor or a classroom door that swings into traffic, a lower profile bar means less to catch bags, carts, and clothing on. It is the same reason it gets specified on high traffic institutional openings.
