ISO 14443 contactless non-proprietary smartcards, but only the card serial number, so if your existing cards carry data in a sector the reader will not see it. And Keyscan mobile credentials, with no added programming at the reader. It is a 13.56MHz reader, so 125 kHz proximity cards are not part of that list.

Yes, it is rated for metal mounting. Read range is 1 inch (3 cm) with an ISO type card whether the reader is on metal or off metal, so you don't lose distance by putting it on a hollow metal frame. Plan for that 1 inch though: it is a present-the-card reader, not a wave-from-a-distance reader, which matters for gloved hands and wallet-carried credentials.

That is exactly what it is for. The K-SMART3 is compatible with K-SMART readers and K-SECURE 1K and 4K credentials, so a card already working on the other openings works at the new one. Adding a door or replacing a failed reader doesn't touch the cardholder population.

Partly, and the limit matters. It reads ISO 14443 contactless non-proprietary smartcards, but the card serial number only. If your current system authenticates on the CSN, those badges will work. It looks adjacent but solves a different problem. The Securitron R100 is a surface mounted wireless card reader in the RH100 series. The K-SMART3 is a wired reader - it terminates on 22 AWG cable and reports to the panel over Wiegand - so the two are not drop-in for each other at the same opening. Use the R100 where pulling cable to the reader location is the obstacle; use the K-SMART3 where a Wiegand home run already exists or can be run.

Nothing at the reader. Support for Keyscan mobile credentials is built in with no added programming, so the mobile side is handled in your credential management rather than by configuring hardware at the door. The enrollment work is issuing the credentials, not commissioning the reader.

The panel does. The K-SMART3 is a credential reader with a Wiegand output, so it presents the credential data upstream and your access control system decides whether the door unlocks. It is not a standalone lock controller, and it needs a panel and locking hardware to make a working opening.
